Dude, don’t worry about me, Zac. I’m tough. I can take it. The one who’d best watch out is James Ragland. Did you see the My Two Dads pic of Blow and Ragland at the top of Metro today? Next to the pic it says: “Coming Sunday. Race Relations. Newsroom neighbors Steve Blow and James Ragland move their cubicle conversations about race to a four-part series, Talking Race. Also, catch their daily video sparring on dallasnews.com.”

Here’s a sneak preview of Talking Race, leaked to me by their cubicle neighbor Esther Wu:

BLOW: On the one hand, race relations are sticky. On the other hand, they’re better than ever!

RAGLAND: I don’t want to offend anyone, but I’m black.

BLOW: I remember you told me that the other day, when we were in our cubicles.

RAGLAND: And you’re white.

BLOW: We prefer “Caucasian.”

RAGLAND: I loved the column you wrote about how you spent a week driving slower, and your gas mileage improved.

BLOW: Thanks, neighbor! I loved the three columns you wrote about the guy who got rolled while he was having a seizure and how he lied about being in ROTC. Especially the second one. But the third one was good, too. And so was the first.

RAGLAND: You see that? You’re a white dude from Sunnyvale. I’m a brother from Paris. But we’re digging each other’s pudding. That’s progress. No matter what Jeremiah Wright says.

BLOW: On the one hand, right on, my dawg. On the other hand, true that, homey!

Meant to post this last week, but the print version of FB got in the way. Anyhoo, Al Biernat has a new way to experience his sublime Sunday brunch: on the radio. Every Sunday from 1-2 p.m., BizRadio 1360 AM in Dallas broadcasts from a front-of-room booth. The show, hosted by Dan Cofall, is called “Pinnacle: Stories of Success,” and it features interviews with local bizcelebs and such. Al says the station likes the energy and chatter when broadcasting from a live venue, so be sure to fill up the dining room after church. Why am I so glad this is going on? Because Al installed WiFi to accommodate the show, and that means I can take my laptop over there right now to finish out the day. Giddy. Up. Weekend.

John Freeman has been a member of at least a dozen bands during his on-again, off-again tenure in Dallas (Dooms U.K., the Dutch Treats, Telethon, the Golden Vipers, N.I.B. — and those are just the ones I had the fortune of seeing). He was also instrumental in the late, great Good/Bad Art Collective and, briefly, ran Sloppyworld, a venue-and-more in Expo Park. Among many other things. Now he’s moving again. He’s selling off Sloppyworld’s P.A. system to help pay off debts and fund his departure, ostensibly to move to NYC to write rock operas with his pal Corn Mo. But that might not necessarily be true. I think we’ve reached the point where we need to, oh, you know.

A few weeks ago, I ran into Freeman at Good Records 8th birthday/Record Store Day shindig. He was the MC for the event, and was sweetly wearing a ZC/07 T-shirt. I hadn’t seen him in a bit, so I asked him about what I had read in the Observer, or on its blog at any rate. He said that he wasn’t, in fact, moving to New York, though the idea of getting paid to write rock operas with Corn Mo would of course be awesome. (Paraphrase–I don’t think he used the word “awesome,” since it’s a habit only I can’t break.) He said he was probably moving to Portland, and that he pretty much made the rest of it up, as revenge for Pete Freedman’s piece about the Melodica Festival.

But who knows? Maybe he was playing a joke on me. It wouldn’t be the first time that happened, and it certainly won’t be the last. I’m a strange mixture of sarcastic and gullible. Nothing is ever as it seems around me.

The FrontBurnervian wonders: “So not only might we be stuck paying sales tax for Amazon purchases, we have the DMN to blame for it. Tattle tales. And isn’t this pretty much creating news instead of reporting it?” I see his point.

For the moment, I’m not arguing one way or the other. But if I were going to argue for the hotel, and if I owned, say, $44,620,350 worth of land (in taxable value, and we all know how that game works) near the proposed site of said hotel, don’t you think I’d be remiss if, in making my argument, I didn’t at some point mention all that land?

The image you see here was generated by the good people at Crow Holdings (click to expand). You know where Crow Holdings stands on the issue (I’m looking at you, Hilton Anatole), but that doesn’t diminish the point of this map. As I say, if you add up everything in red, it comes to about $44.6 million. That number, as we’ve learned, is probably low. But if the hotel gets built, you can bet that land will be worth even more.

A fact worth mentioning.

Wanna watch the Dallas Stars battle the Detroit Red Wings tonight, but don’t know where to go? We know, sitting at home’s too boring, and going to a bar is too loud. Or something like that. Anyway, come down to Victory Park and watch it alfresco right in front of the gosh darn AAC. For free! Bring chairs, some cash for “refreshments,” eyes for oogling at the Dallas Stars Planet Tan Ice Girls (not sure who they are but guessing they are probably hot), and your team spirit. The game will be shown on the humongous HD screens on all sides of AT&T Plaza, so you won’t miss an icing.

These “official watching parties” will take place during all games of the Western Conference Finals. After the jump, the schedule and press release.

That’s because the Friday’s executive has left the Carrollton-based company to head up Applebee’s. So I guess his job will be to take the Applebee’s menu and overall dining experience and Fridayize it. One guess: They make it Saturdaze, the restaurant where Liz Lemon cheerfully ordered “the fried onion tower for two, for one.”

He swore me to secrecy but I crossed my fingers behind my back. All I can say is that he’s making some big ch-ch-ch-changes and it makes me hungry. Now I will sit here at my desk and wait for him to come across the street and hit me over the head with a copper sauce pan for opening my big fat mouth. I just can’t keep a secret. Y’all want to guess?
