RE: BUSH LIBRARY
For non-memory-having FBvians, I am opposed to the Bush Library at SMU. I don't like the guy's policies, but that's not the reason I'm opposed to the library. My concern is that the library will be nothing but an organ for the Bush administration.
And I don't say that as a knock on SMU. I say that because of Bush's track record. This is a president notorious for his objections to government transparency and public debate; look at his signing statements, the secret renditions, domestic wiretapping, or the accounts from former employees who say he surrounds himself only with yes-men.
The PCP editorial says a library must allow a living ex-president a certain "diffidence." My concern is how much diffidence this president will expect.
