Time to Adopt a Pet. The city of Dallas has decided to reduce adoption fees for certain people (seniors), certain pets (those over 6 years old), and certain occasions. The fees for dogs will go from $85 to $43 and cats will go from $55 to $27. Some people say the city didn’t go far enough with its reductions. My husband found our dog, a purebred Samoyed, at a shelter in Oklahoma. The dog was perfectly healthy at 3 years old, my husband was a graduating college student, and it just so happened that May was “half-off” month. We got our pet for $25. Low fees go a long way.
It rained! And the land rejoiced. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop this heat wave.
Boy Scout Honored for Saving Brother. I’m really bad under pressure. Like, really bad. That’s why I never excelled in basketball. (I was a little more comfortable with the ball than my friend who treated it like a hot potato and would touch it as little as possible. We lost a lot). Anywho. Reid Vaenuku plugged his phone in to charge one night, and it started a huge fire. His family (which consists of nine members) ran outside. His brother, however, thought it was a joke and went back to sleep. Reid noticed his brother was missing and ran in and got him out. He got the Honor Medal with Crossed Palms, which only 250 other scouts have been given, because he is great under pressure.

I think the same editor should write the Leading Off series here. The article veries in style too much. Just my humble opinion.
I’m sorry, I need to apologize for the typographical error in the previous post. Would like for my suggestion to carry some weight.
The word should be “varies”. Thanks
I think the style varies too much in the comments on this blog. I nominate LewP to write all the comments from now on.
I believe in variety. I like variety. Variety is the spice of life. And that’s why my ex-wife has 50% of everything I ever owned.
Thanks Dan, It’s great to have consistent replies to replies to Leading Off posts.
Not to engage in piling on here (which I hate), but someone seems a little out of the “LewP” on how Leading Off works. While a copy editor would sometimes be a blessing (re: third item — “his bother” should read “his brother”), this is a chance to see whether D’s editors can deliver the previous day’s late night news headlines in a clever digest to keep us all informed (in case our bedtimes are really early). Style isn’t so important. Rather, it’s an exercise in examining the degree of difficulty each editor encounters in bringing an edge to something mundane.
Great feedback to all.
Let me give an example of what I’m trying to say.
Let’s say you go to the same Oriental restaurant because you like their hot and sour soup.
Let’s say they decided on having different chefs prepare the same soup except using their own recipes. Sometimes the soup is perfect, sometimes it’s a tad bit salty.
All I’m saying is it would seem like there is plenty of time and space for variety on the D, but can’t we just enjoy the same soup to lead off the day?
Tweak it to “Leadin’ Off” and get Steve Blow to write it. I mean to say, Criminy Jane at a church picnic, is he ever consistent. More consistent than chickens getting hosed in a hog barrel, Grampa Blow would say. Chickens getting hosed in a hog barrel. Lordy, that makes me smile.
Thanks
Uhh, let’s just get excited that it rained and that a boy saved his brother’s life!
Did LewP just call me salty?
Thanks for the catch, Powell.
“Oriental” is a misnomor, Lew. I think you mean “Asian.”
So which editor are you calling “hot,” and which one is “sour”?
misnomer
I thought people were “Asian” and stuff was “oriental,” and vegetables are “sensual” and people are “sensuous.”
Krista – lay claim to perfect and let Rogers or Crain be salty.
