We’ve got a long weekend ahead of us. I wore shorts to work today. I’ve already opened a beer. No one wants to read anything too terribly taxing at this point, right? So I’ve got a question for you. Mark Cuban was at Katy Trail Ice House last night with the Larry O’Brien trophy. The question: if you, as an owner, win your franchise’s first NBA Championship, how long are you allowed to carry around the trophy when you go out drinking? In other words, at what point are people going to go, “We get it. Your team won. Yes. But now it’s time to leave the trophy at home. Or at least in the trunk of your car”? (For the record, I’m not suggesting that point has already been reached.)

Was Mr. Cuban actually “out drinking”? :0]
I was there last night… Everywhere the trophy moved the entire bar moved with it. I found it a bit pathetic.
Three.
I think it’s amazing that we fans get to be up close and personal with it. Cubes can carry it around town until next June, as far as I’m concerned.
Until after the first home game of the next season! I would say until the next season starts, but you’ll have the trophy at the first home game when you present the rings and stuff, so you might as well take it with you when you go drinking later that night.
I’m with Brandy on this, but with one caveat. Let the players each get 1-2 weeks to haul it to their hometown and let them spend time hauling it to the pub/club. They earned that trophy too.
As long as he wants to. When should I take the Mavericks flags off of my vehicle ? They still make me happy.
Dirk could fill up the Winspear Opera House singing “We Are The Champions”. Just two straight hours of him singing and waving his arm back and forth. We all love it. No one will get tired of whatever the Mavericks want to do.
It would be cool to see in person. As long as the fans are intrigued, he should bring it out for them to see. When the time comes that noone cares, leave it at home.
I remember when the Stars won the Stanley cup all the players got to keep it for a week or so. One of our kids favorite memories was when they brought it to the elementary school and it was filled with M & M’s. I agree – all the players earned the trophy and they should get to haul it around also!
For the amount of money I have paid (and all other fans) supporting the Mavs over the course of my life – I hope he keeps taking it on the pub tour. And I hope I’m lucky enough to drink a beer on the stool next to it. Better investment than any of my degrees so far. I have a couple pieces of parchment, but would rather have received a gold trophy!
There’s not a better tradition in sport than the players each getting the Stanley Cup for a week or so that HPMOM mentioned. All other sports should copy it.
