There is seemingly no end to the tales of woe emananting from the Governor’s Emerging Technology Fund. Yesterday the News revealed that the executive director, who had no apparent credentials for the job, was playing footsie on the side. Meanwhile, the Austin American Statesman was hot on the trail of David Nance, a Perry crony to whom the governor directed a $2 million federal grant. Guess what? The money is spent, and there is nothing to show for it. But Nance was able to pay himself $250,000 a year while it lasted. You want some waste and fraud in government? Look no further than your Texas governor.

I don’t want to make any wild accusations, but I’ll just betcha that Mr Perry wet his hair, uh, beak just a little bit in both those episodes.
Ma & Pa Fergason would be proud!
Is this a big surprise to anyone with a comprehensive view of politics and pols in Texas and we have this guy for how many more years? The hypocrisy and deceits continue…how lucky are we?
Some people shouldn’t be trusted with money because they just don’t understand budgets.
As we know, these stories about the governor surfaced before the last election. Voters had every chance to take the measure of the man. In a perfect world, they’d have given the dull but competent Bill White the keys to the mansion, the one Perry allowed to burn down on his crack DPS team’s watch. That they didn’t is testament to just how “red” Texas remains.
If a state like, say, Iowa can regularly return both the conservative Grassley and the liberal Harkin to the senate, why can’t we play on both sides of the aisle when it comes to statewide elected officials?
@Jackson “the mansion, the one Perry allowed to burn down” “ALLOWED”? more like DID.
Don’t worry, Jackson. Demographics will turn Texas purple. The Texas GOP is just too racist to welcome Hispanics, who within a decade will be the state’s majority, into the party.
