The two new area teams that started play in the minor American Basketball Association — the North Texas Fresh (who play in Fort Worth) and the Dallas Generals (whose home court is Fair Park Coliseum) — have already forged an intense rivalry, after having played their first game against one another on Saturday.
It looks like the Generals, who were the home team, were in charge of the official scorecard. Their numbers show that they won, 103-101. But the Fresh have reviewed the tape, and they claim that a three-point basket early in the game that was waved off because of traveling was incorrectly counted in the score. The Fresh claim to continue to have an unbeaten record. The Generals owner wants the Fresh kicked out of the ABA. More on their war of words, which is enough to make Will Ferrell proud, after the jump.
From Dallas Generals owner Chris Terrell:
This is going to bring harm to the business of the Dallas Generals organization and to the ABA. I am urging my organization and the league to take necessary legal action to force an injunction and a full retraction of defamatory remarks made public. This is not the first time Mr. Bowdy and the North Texas Fresh organization has made public comments against another team in the ABA.In addition to filing legal action, I am asking the league to immediately remove Jay Bowdy and the North Texas Fresh from the ABA. My organization will do what is necessary to step in and see the games are played.
Response from Jay Bowdy, owner of the Fresh:
I’m probably one of the youngest Owners in the history of the ABA but im not illiterate or ignorant of certain things. Never has my intent been made to make deformatory comments towards a franchise. If they want to count trash talk in they maybe all of us needs to get sued, even fans. I have the truth in front of me and it’s my job to and if I am lying about the score being changed then I will personally remove myself from the ABA, but I have witnesses from the game that worked broadcasting for the Generals that sent me emails also showing that the score was really 101 – 100 North Texas Fresh. It’s too many witnesses on their side that have contacted us about the same situation.

They ought to be kicked out of the league simply for being named the North Texas Fresh. Seriously?
Does Isaiah “J.R.” Rider really play for the Fresh? Oh wow. I’d certainly give my $$ to watch somebody who busted out of the NBA and has been arrested about 6 times in the past 4 years.
Let. It. Go. Seriously.
Sounds like great fun, this new ABA. Just a couple of notches above the old Main Event Wrestling at the Sportatorium.
Even the old ABA, featuring “Your Dallas Chaparrals,” had conflicts, only worse. I was just a kid, but I remember a game against the Virginia Squires (with their rookie sensation Julius Irving) at Moody Coliseum. A fight broke out among players when suddenly the Squires coach Al Bianchi, in a suit and hard sole shoes, raced across the court to get in on the action. Chaps player Ron Boone promptly tossed the Italian stallion three rows into the endzone bleachers, where he continued duking it out with the fans.
I’m not even sure the coach got ejected! That’s how I remember it, anyway. Ask Brad Sham. He was doing color that night to Terry Stembridge’s play-by-play.
Man I was there at that game and me and my wife saw that. Now to read that they trying to kick the team out for finding it is crazy!!!! My kidos enjoyed it, but i’m not a big fan of reading that a guy wants to throw another guy out for finding out that they left those points up, come’on. Sounds intense but give North Texas the win, lmao, im from arlington so hey. I love the gorilla mascot they had, brotha man can move. I’m sure to make some generals and fresh games again, hopefully Generals will have Dick Vitale running the clock ha, that would be AWESOME!
