Fortune recently released a list of the highest-paid men in America, and of the top 25, two were from the Dallas area. Bob Simpson of Fort Worth-based XTO Energy came in at No. 15 with total compensation of $56.6 million in 2007. No. 23 was TXU’s former chairman, president, and CEO C. John Wilder, who brought in $46 million last year (including almost $27.5 million in severance pay). The list of the 25 best-paid women didn’t feature any DFW businesses, but it sheds a little light on that pesky issue of parity: The highest-paid man, Blackstone Group’s Steve Schwarzman, made $350.7 million last year. The highest-paid woman, Sharilyn Gasaway of Alltel, made $38.6 million.

That’s frustrating. And what’s even more depressing … no one even cared enough to comment.
Steven Schwarzman is a founder of Blackstone – and a majority shareholder of a company that went public. Let’s call him an Owner. Ms. Gasaway is an employee.
It is tough to compare a majority owner of a company vs. an employee of another.
While there are many instances of pay inequality, I don’t believe this is one of them.
