First, you need to watch Michael Young’s two-out, clutch hit that brings the Rangers within one run of AL West-leading L.A., and which gives superstar Josh Hamilton a chance to win the game. Problem: Hamilton, who hasn’t had a home run since June 17, would be battling AL saves leader Francisco Rodriguez. Related question: Like you some walk-off video? Getcha some. P.s.: If you don’t get a chill, do yourself a favor and call the morgue, ask for Cindy, and give her your sheet size, cuz you is dead.

lmao rico – hamilton is the new mantle. sans liver probs – yet.
I was sitting behind the 1st base dugout. It was electric. There is no reason Hamilton’s nickname shouldn’t be “The Natural.” The fact that he had a poor at bat previously just made the game winner that much better.
He even got the crowd to flap their arms up and down when Marlon Byrd had a decent catch earlier in the night.
It’s obvious that he has given this team and the city a reason to care about baseball again.
I had a sports cry last night. That moment was better than the Delluci moment of ‘04
Know what might be awesome? Putting Josh Hamilton on the cover of a magazine. I know S.I. already did it. But I wonder if his majestic feats and his upcoming all-star appearance warrant another cover treatment. Further, I wonder what certain publishers would think of such an editorial move, whether they might poo-poo the cover idea because they don’t know who Hamilton is.
Just wondering.
As I watch that again this morning, I want to point out how fantastic the call — and then the minute of silence — is. In fact, everything about that clip is perfect:
The “Let’s Go Rangers” chant that ends with the crack of Hamilton’s bat, Lewin’s call, the shot of Hamilton’s grin as he rounds second, the fireworks, cue the theme from “The Natural,” shots of dejected Angels walking off the field, the fans going nuts, the Rangers hopping in anticipation at home, and, once they mob Hamilton, Kinsler swinging at the air in joy.
Eric, I thought the silence was from Lewin blowing his mic dead. Or they turned off the mics while Josh and TAG did the happy dance.
Josh Lewin’s “ballgame!” is the exulted cry of a man who has watched way too many slow, bad, boring, error-filled, ridiculous innings.
My man crush grows everytime he does something like this
Just another affirmation for why baseball has always been my favorite sport. Who could ask for a better way to end the game? More than that, who isn’t the slightest bit excited about the Rangers this year? They are finding more ways to win, from good hitting to hidden talent in minor league pitchers! No matter what happens by the end of September, this is one of the best seasons so far. Who would have imagined this???
I haven’t attempted to crawl back up on the bandwagon yet. But, back to back 3-2 and 5-4 wins against quality means that they have some pitching. Then again, we still have the post-allstar game annual doldrums to navigate.
As a life long Ranger fan, I have become jaded to these types of games.Do it at the end of the season. Win playoff game #2 in franchise history.
The hero in this story isn’t Josh Hamilton. It’s his grandmother, who supported him when no one else would.
being a rangers fan means i’m a pro at accepting disappointment BUT this still gives me goosebumps. hooray for baseball!
I love Evan Grant’s lead, too:
“On-deck hitter David Murphy tossed his bat and helmet into the air. Ron Washington leaped onto the back of coach Art Howe, almost knocking him to the ground. Ian Kinsler tried to hurdle the dugout railing and instead ended up eating dirt.
“And they could not have looked more graceful doing it.”
What a great finish. This team probably won’t win the division this year, but when it does next year, we’ll point to this game as the night the journey began.
I always said it would take “10 games over .500 sometime after the All-Star break,” but I give up, I’m in.
What a great call by Josh! A true pro who knows when to shut up and let the camera and the crowd tell the story. Just Awesome!!! And Josh, what can you say about this guy. I’m all for putting him on the cover of D, in fact I might even buy that copy instead of borrowing my girlfriends!
Hamilton’s story is why baseball remains the National Pastime…Americans love tales of redemption
sure we all love the NFL, but football doesn’t make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up like a 2-run jack in the bottom of the 9th against the best closer in the league does
also it’s the first ever game-winning HR K-Rod has allowed in his career
Grant’s lede is rock solid, no doubt, and the photo with Hamilton in mid-air is great, as well
We were at the game last night, and it was absolutely electric. Finally, a game where the crowd was into it, cheering them on, all the way through the end of the 9th. I know it’s been a long haul, but this team rocks, and the fact that the fans acknowledged that by standing and cheering, BEFORE Hamilton even got to the plate, was something itself to cheer about. This team deserves it – has earned it – and the fans delivered.
I hit a walk-off home run in high school.
I though Lewin’s call was awesome too. And Nadel’s call was classic as well:

And to think I turned off the TV right before this great baseball moment. Thank goodness for video. I’ve watched it over and over and still get the same “chills” reaction!
Ron Washington is a good manager and part of the reason this young team is making things exciting. Tom Kelly trained him well.
I too am well into having a man crush. I am a life long San Francisco Giants fan who has relocated from California to Alabama and who now is a Texas Ranger fan. I first saw him on one those house remodel shows and have been following him ever since. There is nothing like the human element to help connect to a athlete. I have never looked forward with so much anticpation to the home run derby. Thank you Josh.
I sent a text to my brother that said “Next pitch, Hamilton homer.” The baseball gods saw it and smiled. How great it is to have a bunch of players worth cheering for instead of one named star player and then the rest of the team. As a life long Ranger fan, we’ve got the best seats on the previously lonely bandwagon.
I am so excited about all the good things coming to Josh. However, I have to disagree with Monkey God who said, “The hero in this story isn’t Josh Hamilton. It’s his grandmother, who supported him when no one else would.” Anyone who is an addict or knows an addict knows that you can have all the support in the world, but until you are committed to changing, you won’t. That makes Josh AND his grandmother pretty special, HEROES, in my book…
I’m worried Tim will hurt Eric trying to jump on the Rangers bandwagon.
Not becoming a drug addict is (as Chis Rock would say) what your suppose to do. If you want a local sports hero try Mike Young. He supported Hamilton when he became a Ranger and still does and will if he flames out as a player.
My opinion, but I don’t think Rush Limbaugh is a hero for getting off pain killers.
Josh Hamilton will be signing at the Barnes & Noble in south Arlington on October 22nd at 7pm for his book Beyond Belief.
