1) Two think tanks are grousing about income inequality in Texas. Somehow, I have my doubts. Still, gaps grow even if everyone’s income increases by the exact same percentage. What’s the problem? Everyone is still better off. And even if your neighbor starts making 20 percent more than you, how are you harmed? And really, the best question is why should anyone care at all?
2) Note to headline writer: You think so, doctor?
3) Here we go again with the flight cancellations and the fleet groundings. (Déjà vu? Mais oui.) And then it gets funky.
(Your Wednesday morning moment of Zen.)
2) And in today’s “not so obvious” news…
RE #1
I think you should look at Larry James’ blog at Central Dallas Ministries for today. The numbers of people living in poverty are increasing drastically.
But Lee, who cares? Some people live in poverty, some people don’t. How does that affect me? I mean these people are probably lazy, un-enterprising and are justly punished by their poverty.
I’m sure that Walmart being one of the largest employers across the nation has nothing to do with the income gap. After all, their employees sometimes work 40 hours a week and almost half of them are insured!
Because, if you examine history, wide income inequality leads to an entrenched class system, shrinking middle classes and lack of upward mobility. It stifles and then destroys democracies. Other than that, you know, its cool. Libertarians Rock!!!
Keep preaching the lies. We’ve heard this garbage for thirty years (probably longer, I was just too young to give a damn).
Yes, the rich are getting richer, and the poor… well the poor are better off here than 90% of the world’s population. The biggest health problem among American poor is not malnutrition, it’s obesity. We live in a country where the poor get too much to eat.
If you really want to help the poor, start putting more of an emphasis on finishing school, not having babies as teenagers, and staying out of jail.
