DMN Has Picture Problems

The intern staff at the Morning News may look like a Benetton ad compared to ours, but an informal survey by Dallas South Blog of the black-and-white and colored images the newspaper runs on a daily basis looks like a pictorial version of a John Rocker monologue. Snap.

correct me if i am wrong, but “jewish” is a religion and not a race. when i saw his description of bernake, i stopped paying attention to his argument.

I couldn’t get past “Protrays” in the blog title. Nice.

one solution for the DMN would be to stop using photos for all the columnists. Then we could focus on their words and not their ethnicity etc

Why would FrontBurnner try to (subtly) attack the News’ portrayal of minorities?!! How many minorities (black, white, Jewish — a religious minority PJB!) do you see covered in this blog or WORKING for this blog/magazine? I’m sure there is some top 10 list of pretty white people who live in Highland Park that’s waiting to be printed/covered!

i’m aware that they are a religious minority, but i felt that the blog was describing people by race. I have (shockingly) heard of people in Dallas stating “oh, (so and so) he’s not white, he’s jewish.” and that’s the inference I drew, but I could be wrong.

To the point of Jewish, my take is that there is really no such thing as race. Race is a made up American concept and I was trying to conform to that for the sake of anyone who saw the post.

Thanks for the heads up on the typo Jeff. My editor (me) didn’t catch that one. I hope that didn’t really keep you from reading the post.

D Magazine is even worse than the News, I’m surprised they would choose to run this. I do commend D as one of the first entities to notice the brilliance of Mike Davis. He has a feature article in the December issue.
