Leppert Wrings His Hands Over Trinity Vote

Moments after blowing the air horn to start this morning’s big Komen race, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert told FrontBurner he’s fretting over two big issues in connection with the Trinity toll road vote. Leppert, of course, is leading the pro-toll road forces–they’re the ones who will be voting “no”–in the bitter campaign that will culminate with a vote on Nov. 6. One big concern, the mayor said, is the confusing-wording problem, with no meaning yes to the Trinity project as it stands, and vice-versa. The other major worry, Leppert said, is turnout. The more voters show up at the polls, he explained, the better off backers of the Trinity status quo will be. To goose the turnout, he added, the No forces will roll out a full-on radio campaign beginning Monday; a week later, a TV ad blitz will kick in.
