Surprising amount of e-mail on this. To a FrontBurnervian, everyone votes the drought cover. But votes don’t pay the rent. Or they do. But only if you’re a politician. Which we’re not. We’re a humble little magazine company. So go out there and buy a copy of the September D Magazine, on newsstands this weekend. Let your voice be heard, fellow Americans!

RE: PARCHED

Thanks for the kind words from Scott Bennett at dallasblog.com, who will be continuing the much-needed discussion of the state’s developing water crisis on that site in the coming months.

Speaking of Rod’s cover story, here’s a little game you can play at home. The cover on the left is the one we’d planned to publish this month. It was the cover our circulation and sales departments wish we’d published. But at the last minute (literally), we decided to go with the one on the right. Which one would you reach for on the newsstand? We figure by going with the water story, we frittered away at least 30 percent of our newsstand sales for the month. But you’re welcome to prove us wrong by buying multiple copies. Please.
