Tuesday already? My, how the time flies. First off, today I entreat you to weigh in on our 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas and Texture of Dallas contests. Why? Because you’ll be supporting the democratic process. Also, 13 contestants remain in the running, and 13 is an unlucky number.
Tonight, grab a fork and your thinking cap for the Dallas Philosophers Forum at Chic From Barcelona. Participants will debate the role of philosophy in modern society. UNT professor Adam Briggle will tell you that in an age when it’s not unheard of to break up via text message or reveal to your husband that you’re pregnant via iPhone, philosophy is more important than ever. Actually, the discussion will focus more on policy, but I thought I’d take this opportunity to remind you that the world’s going to hell in a handbasket.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the Blue Man Group, which begins its Dallas tour tonight at the Winspear Opera House. Bonus points to readers who blue themselves before the show. Heck, bonus points to readers who catch that reference.
Browse these other great things to do in Dallas.
In the last 24 hours rumors have been floating around that a high-profile society journalist was parting company with his/her publication. Some thought it might be Jason Sheeler at the Dallas Morning News’ “F!D Luxe” after his OMG piece on Heidi Dillon.
Wrong!
It’s Brooke Hortenstine over at PaperCity Dallas, who turned in her resignation yesterday after 10 years as society editor/co-editor of the publication. She plans to focus more time on her son and developing a stationery venture.
Ran into a group of Dallas boldface types at DFW who were just returning from summering at Pebble Beach. Their iPads had been working overtime pulling up Dallas Morning News‘ Jason Sheeler’s lengthy OMG story on the very eyebrow-raising Heidi Dillon (pictured) and her efforts to get her own reality show. It’s all there, from the suicide attempt to the financials of her nonprofit Fashionistas to many words that are not allowed to be printed here or elsewhere. One society veteran summed it up: “It was fascinating, just like a train wreck.”
It’s just been too dang hot for the Accessories of the Week to venture out. That is until last night. Amy Turner’s party for the Simply Summer Simply Shoes underwriters had a whole passel of adorable, well-tanned gals in silk sundresses and namedropping shoes. One of them was Lauren Ferguson (pictured), who is co-chair for the event’s underwriting as well as a banker at Amegy Bank.
Oh, and if you want to see some pretty great looking shoes, follow the jump. (more…)
When the Toronto Star’s Mitch Potter went looking for background today on Dallas’ Wyly brothers, he turned to D.
Our buddy Alan Peppard surely meant something else when he wrote in his DMN column this morning that a Saturday-night party at literary agent Jan Rich’s place in Highland Park was “all-white.” Since Alan proceeded to name Oprah squeeze Stedman Graham–who’s African American–as one of the guests, we’re confident this was an editing glitch that referred to the decor or the evening’s dress code. (And, no tasteless outrageous cracks about starched white sheets, please.)

Just got this photo from Sting’s Saturday night concert for the North Texas Super Bowl XLV. You know the one at the Winspear where Dallas ladies poured on to the Skokos stage to dance with the Brit.
See any familiar faces in the crowd?
Candy’s at the Genesis Women’s Shelter Mother’s Day Luncheon and sends word that instead of having Laura introduce Condoleezza Rice, former President George W. Bush did. Bush said Laura is “out selling books.”
Candy also attached this photo in case you don’t believe us.

D’s Event Empress Sarah Eveans is checking out everything under the sun or clouds. Here’s a shot of her this morning at the Dallas Arboretum’s Mad Hatters Tea Party with her fellow judges Shirin “Project Runway” Askari and Steve “Dallas Dozen” Kemble. Sarah’s the one in the sedate yellow dress. Shirin is in the one shoulder number. Steve is the one with Cowboys Stadium on his head.
Wednesday night Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson (right, pictured with Jennifer and John Eagle) was the drop-in guest of honor at the patrons party in downtown Neiman’s for the Dallas Museum of Art’s upcoming Arts Ball. She worked the room better than any politician in memory. Everyone from shop girl to CEO was an old friend by the end of her brief visit.
When asked if she had offered any advice for “Kate,” Sarah answered with a question. . . “Who?” (more…)

Model Tina Craig in a design by Oscar Fierro.
Last night there was a little event at f.i.g. called Rock the Runway, thrown by the ladies of the Junior League of Dallas. The idea was to have five local designers–Abi Ferrin, Oscar Fierro, Patti Flowers, Shemara Jeyarajah and Khanh Nguyen–use issues of D Magazine and D Home to construct a dress (they also showed a few looks that were not constructed out of magazines).
Adding to the challenge was the fact that the D designs would be worn by celebrity models, of varying shapes and sizes.
We hope you’ll agree these dresses turned out pretty amazing. Jump for pics and the winner of the evening.
With rumors swirling in NYC about her 28-year tenure as Town & Country’s editor-in-chief, class-act Pamela Fiori was in town yesterday and discussed her boss, future plans for the publishing industry, and herself with SweetCharity.
Screen legend Lauren Bacall (pictured) has no fear in discussing past and present celebs. She made that apparent at the recent Nasher Salon Series.
Hugh Jackman, rest easy.
Woody Harrelson. . . well, she says she likes you, but. . . .
W, don’t even read SweetCharity’s report.
