The oft-tackled Beyond Therapy opens at Stage West this evening, and the aggressively satirical and foul-mouthed content have kept the play relevant and regularly produced since its 1981 debut. Opening night accompanied by some truffle hummus at Winslow’s Wine Café doesn’t sound like a terrible reason to drive to Fort Worth.

Elsewhere in local opening news, Upstart Productions’ Year of the Rooster will debut aWyly’s Studio Theatre tomorrow night. This is the first in a string of performance groups who have been asked to showcase their work in the literally lofty confines downtown. The reason I mention tomorrow’s debut today is that we are giving away a pair of tickets to the show over on FrontRow. The cutoff for entering the contest is today at 4 pm.

Artist and academic John Pomara will be giving a lecture at private gallery the Warehouse this evening, for a talk “A Conversation on Mediation, Reproduction, and the Sexual Engagement of Art: the work of Jessica Dickinson, Frances Stark, and Shinro Ohtake.” Peter Simek has more on that mouthful of a topic if you go here. The event runs from 6-7:30 this evening.
