A Look at Kidd Kraddick’s Show A Year After His Death

If you, like me, enjoy it when the Morning News lets Alan Peppard write something more than recaps of society events and such, you will like this long piece about how the rest of Kidd Kraddick’s morning show crew has carried on since his death last year. (Note: while a lot of design has gone into the layout of the story online, and it looks nice, it can be a bit of a pain to read if your internet connection is slow. But also note I have, like, 40 tabs open, so who knows? Could be on my end. It’s usually on my end.)

  1. It’s a good piece. But it doesn’t address the central question: how have they been able to increase ratings? I am not a regular listener, but I don’t feel like I’m going out on a limb when I say that the show is not as good without Kidd. It certainly hasn’t IMPROVED. I would have appreciated, if not an explanation, then an exploration of that conundrum.

  2. Peppard is one of DMN’s two or three best writers. Wish they’d let him do this kind of thing more often.

  4. I wonder if the TV exposure from Dish Nation, coupled with the I Heart Radio app has broadened their audience?

  6. The fourth and fifth paragraphs of the story mention ratings:

    “Kidd Kraddick had been a morning-radio prophet who delivered the holy demographic: female listeners between 18 and 49. In that key demo, he was ranked either first or second in 75 percent of the markets that carried his show.

    “One year after his death, the survivors have achieved a remarkable bit of alchemy. They are currently in first or second place in 95 percent of their markets.”

  7. Oops—I see that you want to know how, not whether, they’ve increased ratings.

  8. I am curious how many markets they have retained. The article mentioned that prior to Kidds passing, they achieved 1st or 2nd in 75% of their markets. And now they are producing 1st or 2nd in 95% of their markets. Are we comparing apples to apples? Or have some of the previous markets dropped off and theyve remained steady in the remaining ones? Just a thought that jumped out at me when I read the article. I am happy they are doing well, as I am a listener. Certainly the show is missing Kidd’s voice. I do think the more time has passed the better they have gotten, but it is a head scratcher on how they are achieving better ratings.
