Though it’s often by design, art is often confusing, and thank heavens for that. Who wants to instantly discern everything in the world anyway? Even more perplexing are the artists themselves. Tonight presents one of those rare instances where artists will be providing some answers, instead of merely striving to provoke. Ilume Gallerie is presenting a benefit aptly billed as Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Ask an Artist, and you’ll get the chance to hear some of the artists currently showing work at the space to explain themselves. SMU instructor and Art & Seek contributor Gail Sachson will host the event, which benefits the aesthetically-minded outreach organization, Dwell with Dignity. Hopefully nobody’s parents show up in a Groucho Marx disguise and ask why you didn’t just major in accounting or take that golf scholarship instead.

As I’ve said previously, the current season of AT&T PAC’s Patio Sessions seems to be taking more risks with their booking, and it’s been a welcome change. This evening’s event features two performers and sometimes collaborators who know what it’s like to work a packed room, so let’s see how they handle the expansiveness of the Arts District. That would be former-Neon Indian guitarist, Ronnie Heart, and former-Ishi singer, Taylor Rea, otherwise known as Zhora. This is just about the closest thing we have to two legitimate rock stars in our current music scene, so I’m sure they’ll be just fine.
