Trick or treat! I don’t really do costumes, so if you’ve put in minimal effort, you’re already beaten me.
If you don’t have party plans yet, there are so many options. After all, Thursday is basically the weekend. I like the sound of Sissy’s Halloween Hoedown, which features a hillbilly costume contest (I’d just come dressed as Kenneth the Page), raffle prizes, themed cocktails, and live music from Southern Renaissance. Best of all, you can make a reservation for dinner after you enjoy the festivities. Two birds, and a percentage of the proceeds benefit Family Gateway.
Another good one is the Green Bandana Group’s Golden Age party, happening in a warehouse gallery space next to the Dallas Contemporary and featuring an impressive line up of artists of both the musical and visual variety. Expect performances by A.Dd+, Jenny Robinson, Lord Byron, and quite a few others. There’s free “Golden Age Halloween Punch” until it runs out, but the whole thing is BYOB. It’s ten bucks, and if you are a lady in costume, you’ll get in free until 10 p.m. Other parties with a significant musical bent include Halloween at the Double Wide, which features Hall and Oates cover band The Rich Girls, and the Dram’s Gatsby event featuring Danny Church Band.
