Death Threats and Support in Texas. Lots of good Ted Cruz reading/watching here. Death threats. Texas support. Texas tour. And CNN’s interesting interview with the Republican Senator that aired Sunday. It discusses his “rock star” status in Texas, his reputation in Washington, his fascination with social media, and just who he believes is at fault for the shutdown mishap.
The Girl in the Closet. Today’s Dallas Morning News has part two of its eight-part series on Lauren Kavanaugh, a young woman who was locked in a closet and physically abused by her parents until the age of 8. When she was rescued at 8, she weighed just 25.6 pounds, the size of an average 2-year-old. It’s obviously a devastating story, but worth following throughout the week. Part one is here.
State Fair Finishes Strong. It fell just short of the record, but the Texas State Fair brought in an estimated $37 million during its 24-day run. Not a bad showing, especially considering the rainy days it contended with. A few D Magazine staffers took a fair field trip Friday. This happened. And this. And this. You’re welcome.
Robbery Suspect Nabbed in Traffic Stop. Michael Cleveland has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery so far, but Dallas police believe he’s responsible for 13 armed robberies in Dallas and another two in Irving.
Aurora Takes Over the Arts District. For anyone who missed Aurora Friday, this video is a nice little window into the evening.
