Lewisville’s GOP Congressman Michael Burgess says this morning that if Speaker of the House John Boehner brought a resolution to fund the government to a vote without some form of delay or defunding of Obamacare, there still aren’t enough votes to pass it. The Obama administration, House Democrats, and some Republicans have claimed there’s now enough support to end the shutdown, if Boehner will only bring the measure to the floor.
“It’s not fair to say he has the votes to pass a clean C.R. even using all 200 Democratic votes,” Burgess said Wednesday just after a breakfast meeting of the Texas State Society. “We have had a number of procedural votes, and Republicans aren’t switching sides to vote with the Democrats on any of them. If there were 24 or 25 votes (as President Obama has said there is), then you’d see some signs of that now.”
Burgess may well know what he’s talking about. But shouldn’t all media reports that cite him as a source be required to run the following as well?
Disclaimer: Congressman Burgess, an OB/GYN, also once argued the prevalence of fetal masturbation during a House committee hearing.
