October is the best month, for many reasons.
Tonight, we have the return of the Magnolia Theatre’s Big Movie series. You have two chances to catch a showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, the voyeuristic masterpiece starring James Stewart as the man with the binoculars. If you haven’t seen it, you should. (Over on FrontRow, we declared it the director’s second-greatest film.) And since I spent yesterday at the State Fair alternately dosing myself with cough syrup and eating every fried thing you can imagine, Union Bear‘s caesar salad sounds pretty good right now. Maybe minus the chicken fried egg, even though I love that thing.
Also this evening, India.Arie ascends the stage at South Side Ballroom. She played a big part in the R&B scene of the early 2000s, pioneering a neo-soul sound alongside artists such as Dallas’ own Erykah Badu and the singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton. She released a new album over the summer, so you should hear tracks from that as well as familiar hits like “Video.”
