Making Dallas Even Better

A Questionable Post About That Hottie Armie Hammer

Do we get to claim Armie Hammer as a native son? Maybe. He lived for a time in Highland Park. Do we get to claim that Far Dog, a restaurant in Creede, Colorado, has Dallas connections? Most definitely. It is co-owned by Al Biernat and his son Jess (and their partner Erin Yurkinas). Okay. Then I can tell you that Hammer and Johnny Depp and the rest of the Lone Ranger crew ate at the place. If you care.

Tim, if that’s all the connection required: Many Dallas people like to visit Santa Fe. I’m a Dallas person and I visited Santa Fe. I stayed a night at Bishop’s Lodge. They told me Johnny Depp had also stayed at Bishop’s Lodge while filming the “Lone Ranger.” Few guests ever saw him because he had a private bungalow. He was always surrounded by “four huge bodyguards.” But you could hear him at night, playing a guitar on his porch and singing. Presumably Keith Richards songs. Because that’s who he sounds like these days even though back when he started out he talked like a regular kid who grew up in the South.

The cool thing about Depp and crew’s time in Creede was that they didn’t need bodyguards. They just freely walked down the street without anyone bothering them . . . unlike Santa Fe, where paparazzi is undoubtedly everywhere.

If I were a total cornball hack, I would say something about that being in Deppth.

I worked for his grandfather, Armand Hammer, for a number of years during the 80’s. He was a wildman..
