The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Wednesday rejected Randy Halprin’s death row appeal, CBS reports, returning him to the Allan B. Polunsky Unit in Polk County. Halprin, from McKinney, was one of seven inmates who escaped from in December 2000 and killed Irving police officer Aubrey Hawkins on Christmas Eve. Six of the men were found in Colorado; the seventh killed himself.
Halprin presented 31 claims challenging his conviction and death sentence, all of which were dismissed by the court.
In June 2011, Thomas Korosec wrote a piece for D about Halprin and his bride, Crystal Wilson, whom he married while on death row.
