Ted Cruz: Obama Exploited the Newtown Tragedy ‘Within Minutes’

I meant to throw this up yesterday, but it got lost among the 19 other FrontBurner posts we wrote, from nine separate contributors. Did I forget to mention this blog is free? And that subscriptions to the magazine – where you can read even more words from those nine separate contributors – are only $18 a year, or $28 for two years? Yes, I did forget to mention that.

Anyway, newly minted Texas Senator Ted Cruz headed to Meet the Press Sunday, where David Gregory sat him down and talked to him about gun control. It’s a fairly predictable four minutes, especially his attacks on President Obama. Via Slate:

When NBC’s David Gregory asked whether the [NRA ad that references Obama’s daughters] was constructive to the debate in the country, Cruz fired back: “What I don’t think is constructive is what the president is doing right now, which is within minutes of that horrible tragedy in Newtown the president began trying to exploit that tragedy to push a gun control agenda that is designed to appeal to partisans,” he said.

I don’t know the answer to this question but a good investigative journalist with an inquisitive mind would be able to come up with it. How many of the mass murderers including Newtown and the Colorado theater … were members of the NRA, were registered Republicans or were raised in homes with conservative Republican parents? My guess – 0%.

How dare you insinuate that parental involvement, politics or culture in general played any role in guns killing people.

  • downtownworker

Those poor guns. They get blamed for everything!! Let’s pass legislation to treat guns as people under the law.

  • Avid Reader

Or better yet, we could get all the guns to organize their own union so that they can get waivers for everything putting them above the law.

  • Dubious Brother

Possibly piggy backing off another Supreme Court decision – background checks for gun ownership are an unconstitutional invasion of privacy and gun ownership is a choice especially to prevent rape and incest.

  • Du-Oh

Laughable comments by Texas’ newest clown in congress. Be careful Cruz, you’re already looking like the other buffoon from Texas, Joe Barton. I have a unique idea, how about representing your constituents in your first seat at the big table. Don’t worry, they can’t take your taxpayer funded pension and health plan away.

A little flawed on your incest approach, unless you are suggesting firearms training for 5 year olds.
