I’m ashamed to say that I never thought too much about greyhounds until the estimable Michael Mooney came to town. I love my dog, a golden retriever that’s had an entirely happy life. But Mike introduced me to Jailamoney, his really adorable grey, and by the time he finished rattling off the merits of these ex-racing dogs, I was ready to adopt one (or four). Mike has written extensively about the heart-wrenching plight of greyhounds. You should read this.
And then you should go drink tequila, since tonight’s dinner and tasting at Maximo (rescheduled from last week) benefits the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. When I first got the information about this event a couple months ago, the very smart PR rep attached that photo you see of Mach One, who has radar ears and needs a home. I got all blithering and girly because he is just so cute. And by doing something you might do anyway on a Thursday night, you can help him and other retirees like him receive care and a place to stay on their way to a forever home.
Today also marks the first day of the inaugural Oak Cliff Film Festival, which kicks off at various locations around the Cliff–The Belmont and the Texas Theatre, tonight, and expands to include the Bishop Arts Theatre tomorrow.Peter wrote a great article about it in our June issue, which you can read right here. Check out this full schedule of films, but of course the Texas Theatre is the place for the big opening night bash, complete with the King Bucks. And yes, I know I’ve talked about the Texas Theatre a lot lately. If they’d stop doing cool things, I wouldn’t have this problem.
For more to do this evening, please go here. And just a friendly reminder, it’s your last day to enter our Cirque du Soleil ticket giveaway for the June 26 performance of Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour. Hit the Wufoo form here.

Suzanne Burke, author of the new children’s book, Logan’s Secret will also be in attendance. It’s a heart-warming “tail”. Logan is a rescued greyhound .
Just read Mooney’s story about his dog. Now I’ve got tears running down my face at work.
