Remember back in August when we learned that Neiman Marcus was revamping The Book, turning it into more of an editorial product? Of course you remember. Now comes news that Neiman’s has found the woman to helm the ship. It is none other than Tracy Achor Hayes, formerly the editor in chief of FD Luxe. Hayes told me last night at a fundraiser for the Dallas Center for Architecture that after working for 30 years at the Dallas Morning News, she never could have left to work for a competitor. Sounds like she found the perfect gig. From what I understand, she’ll have a healthy budget with which she’ll be able to attract national writers.

You’ve done it again, Tim, by posting something everyone cares about. How do you always seem to press the right buttons to get the comments flowing?
Have at it, fellow commenters. This should be good. .
Interesting development – glad that she landed a spot with a more stable company. Just curious – didn’t Stacy Girard, former Editor of Modern Luxury Dallas also go to the Neiman’s book? If so – that is going to be an incredible piece – lots of talent there.
@RayRay – that was douchey.
What makes me care about this story:
A. Local journalism icon leaves post for corporate world (congrats Tracy)
B. Local newspaper powerhouse continues to lose talent (again)
C. Local major retailer makes unique move to include more editorial in catalog (hmmmm)
This is an interesting and important development only if you breathe air and are impacted by the news business or the retail business.
Tracy is a fashion icon in my mind (and others) and will most certainly make an impact at Neiman Marcus. I was truly honored to work with her at FD Luxe and see her style, taste and vision come to life each month. I know I share this thought with others: I kinda want to be her when I grow up. Congrats to Tracy and especially Neiman Marcus.
Neiman’s is truly fortunate to have such a talented person to oversee The Book. She’s a great gal and will surely put that NM discount to good use.
I agree, Powter, that RayRay’s remark was rather, um, inappropriate. This story is interesting for all the reasons Bobby so eloquently stated. FD has lost some of its best folks in recent months. Could it be about to fold?
[Standing, clapping]
Tracy is a fashion icon, and a class act. Congrats to her and Neiman’s. FD Luxe is such a beautiful magazine and those will be tough little shoes to fill.
Thank you, minions!
Can someone explain the Horchow “magalog” that was out last year? Is that being rolled into The Book?
Tracy is actually returning to Neimans. She was my boss in the NM Advertising dept back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. She definitely knows how to put the discount to good use! She was a fun boss and “The Book” is lucky to get her.
FD Luxe is one of the few profitable sections left at the DMN. Another one leaves the sinking ship.
LOVE Tracy!!! Class act. Yay Neiman’s!
