Joe Barton’s Son Arrested on DWI Charge

Bradley Barton is 41 years old. His father is U.S. Rep. Joe Barton. Bradley himself is a former candidate for Congress. Well, on Thursday at 4 p.m., he was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under age 15. He was busted in a school zone, outside Highland Park Middle School and McCulloch Intermediate School, in University Park. Now look. The man is entitled to his day in court. Maybe he wasn’t drunk. But the mugshots don’t look good.

  3. I for one would like to apologize to Bradley Barton. This is outrageous and nothing more than a shake down of someone that did nothing more than allegedly driving drunk in a school zone to pick up their kid.

  4. So I guess he no longer lives in the 31st Congressional District???

  5. Let me guess–he bought a case of beer at a University Park grocery store that, until a few months ago, was unable to sell beer.

  6. This is not the first time a parent has been arrested for DUI in the carpool line of an HP school. The last two or three have been mothers tanked on wine. Seems to be a hobby for many.

It’s bad enough getting picked up from middle school by a parent. I could not imagine the shame of having your dad pulled out of the car and arrested in front of EVERYONE during the first week of school.

  7. John M, I applaud you for your unwavering fight against the corruptness that ensnares the Highland Park DARE program!

Serious question. How does one go about getting a DWI while in carpool line. I see it was a DARE officer that arrested him. I assume he took a drink in his car and they saw him?

  9. More than likely Barton’s pants fell down as they were cuffing him and he simultaneouly projectile vomited, and such was the child’s humiliation, so keenly engulfing was it in its numbing betrayal, so brutishly monolithic yet baroquely nuanced in delivering its bitter lessons — a veritable iron maiden of sadistic indignities piercing newly discovered flesh that will never again be tender — that s/he had to resort to catching a hefty buzz in order to dull its painful sting.

    Nice going, DARE.

  11. @ Dmar

A UP resident called 911 to report one of those fugly Infiniti Cute Utes being driven like crap down the street. That got the ball rolling.

The DMN says “The arrest, which happened outside McCulloch Intermediate School after school let out, occurred after a resident alerted police that a motorist was driving erratically, according to Officer Lita Snellgrove.

“What we had was a report of a possible drunk driver,” she said.

An officer at McCulloch to help with traffic during the first week of school made the arrest. A child younger than 15 was in Barton’s car at the time, but the child’s identity has not been released.

Because a child was in the car, Barton faces the felony charge.”

  12. HP middle schoolers are very happy to have the ‘tents pick them up. Only the losers have to walk home. HP also doesn’t have any school buses and with those overloaded backpacks, music instruments, and afterschool activities starting at 4, walking isn’t practical.

  13. God! A man can’t even go pick up a sober driver!? He was trying! It takes a long time to get out of a backpack and strap your drunk dad in his seat, especially when he keeps wandering off to the bushes with his aging prostate. Sheesh.

  17. I am an aquaintance 20 years ago of Brad’s. He was a fine individual who was an outstanding student. He really had to work hard to reach his lofty goals. We all make mistakes.
