Plano Lawyer Gets 180 Days in Jail for Yelling at Judge

You should never get in an argument with someone you are legally required to call “Your Honor.” According to this sub-required story, it was the first time District Judge John Roach Jr. has sentenced a lawyer to jail time. Key quote, from the opposing counsel: “She was constantly in his face, using such statements as ‘Your Honor, you can not shut me up. You cannot keep me quiet…Put me in jail, Judge Roach, I don’t care.’”

Apparently she changed her mind on that whole not caring thing. Sharon Easley, the “particularly antagonistic” family attorney (who also ran against — and lost to — Roach for the spot on the bench in 2006), publicly apologized and had her sentence knocked down to 15 days, which she’ll serve during off-work hours (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.), after the birth of her grandchild.

  1. You gotta love Collin County! Thanks for distracting us for a while!

Btw, what is the status of that other public corruption case up North?

  2. “Other” public corruption case? What’s that mean? The story above isn’t a “corruption case.”

  3. Is there something special about this person that she gets leave jail to go to work during the day and postpone the sentence until after a life event that doesn’t directly involve her? FAIL.

If someone is sentenced to 15 days, let them be locked up for 15 days and let that be the end of it. If the defendant has the privilege of cherry picking – what is the point of sentencing?

  4. Well, at least Collin County voters made the right choice for judge, or at the very least didn’t make the wrong choice. What a clown.
