If you want an idea of where this FBI investigation is headed (think Inland Port and the time-honored South Dallas shakedown) and how it has put the Morning News in an uncomfortable position, read Schutze. When he misses, he can miss badly. When he connects, though, it’s really something to watch.

“In the world of power and money in North Texas there are only families — five or six. Price picked a couple to work for.”
Who are the 2 Price works for and who are the 5 or 6? And shouldn’t there be a reality show about all of them by now?
1. The Ewings
2. The Barnes
3. Angie Barrett
4. Wick Allison
5. The Von Erichs
@Sara: I always wanted to be a bagman for the Von Erichs, but getting into that organisation requires the ruthlessness of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. I just couldn’t cut it.
@Tim: Alright, we are making progress towards that Scotch Summit!
When I moved to Texas 20+ years ago, I learned five things within a week.
1. Pass on the right
2. Texas BBQ is the best
3. Lone Star Beer sucks
4. Summer is hot
5. John Wiley price is crooked as hell
@JB Schutze has put out the idea that JWP’s blocking of the Inland Port project in southern Dallas (his constituency) is at the behest of Alliance Airport, it’s competitor (not in Dallas county), which is owned by the Perot family. So, that would be one of the two families.
@JB As for the 5 or 6, just look at the names on bridges, roadways, museums, and art houses in this town and that’s a pretty good indication.
THE SCHUTZE LOVE-FEST
The man in the bathrobe, holding the gun,
It’s our hero, Jim Schutze, (is this not fun?)
Wielding his fierce pen in another attack
On JWP, “Where’s the popcorn? Sit back.”
‘Tis true when the subject is bad snollygosters,
Shakedowns, land flips or weird deed transfers
Nobody writes with such nimble speed
As Jim Schutze, our champion journalist, indeed.
He’s shown us before where bodies are buried.
Unfortunately not always agreed with – he’s parried
With a Trinity project wrapped in political slime,
Turning naysayers words against them with time.
So it’s time for some credit where justly due,
Acknowledgment of the rumors – it must be true -
He’s really a softy, his heart belongs to Dallas,
Our political narrator really does love us.
My guess starts with a P. I was specifically thinking of the Inland Port from the get-go. Gonna hold my horses, though, if only saying P counts as holding my horses.
TIM: Why, Mr, Schutze, when you connect, you’re … you’re really … something … something to watch ..
(SCHUTZE TURNS FACE UP TOWARD TIM, LIGHTLY BLUSHING IN MOONLIGHT; TIM LOOKS AT HIM SEARCHINGLY AND THEN CUPS THE OL’ CURMUDGEON’S CHIN, EYES A-TWINKLE; CUT TO JIM & TIM BUTTONING UP THEIR SHIRTS BECAUSE THIS SCRIPT IS REALLY LAME AND WE NEED TO GET A PG-13 — WE CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS A SINGLE PAYING CUSTOMER)
Remember back in Dallas many, many years ago when Dave Fox was trying to sponsor John Wiley Price? Well, with the help of Fox, he would have most likely become Dallas mayor. But when Price refused to be manipulated by Fox, I thought maybe this guy has something. Wow, he stood up against the cities powerful kingmakers. Unfortunately, John Wiley took the road of minority kingpin of South Dallas rather than standing up for all the other people in Dallas who needed a leader. What a waste!
