Dallas Has the Best Public High Schools in U.S.

Again. Good news for Dallas ISD, from the Washington Post. This is the same list that used to run in Newsweek, which is why it may seem familiar to see the DISD Science/Engineering and Talented and Gifted magnet schools at the top of the list.

The formula is perhaps too simple, since it’s all about AP and IB tests. Regardless, North Texas has No. 1, No. 2., No. 10 (North Hills Prep in Irving), and No. 11 (Peak Prep) on the list.  And Highland Park is ranked No. 35.

  1. Woodrow will soon also be offering IB testing so look for it to move even higher in the next few years.

  2. Dream on, fred. Woodrow is number 588 in the list. We’ll see if Woodrow will improve its ranking next year. With the padding of seniors’ grades to make the school look good in graduation rates, I highly doubt it. It will be a long way for Woodrow to be comparable to Townview, North Hills and Peak Prep. Never heard of these school begging teachers to give seniors second, third, and fourth chances to make up grade to graduate.

  3. The headline should read that Dallas has the best “charter and magnet” high schools in the country. Public schools? Not so much.

While I understand that these schools are public, in that anyone in DISD can apply, there is a difference. They should do a list of strictly public schools, that would be more informative.

  4. Dream On those are not the same kids who are taking AP and soon IB classes. Woodrow welcomes all unlike some of the schools you mentioned. Your post demonstrates a lack of information or bias.

40% of the 400-plus students in Pre-IB and IB this fall are coming from private schools.

Woodrow will still offer 22 AP and 8 dual credit classes.

Today ground was broken on a $14-million 40,000 square foot Science (STEM) and Performing Arts addition.
