Canada, We Have a Problem.

Dear ruthless Haynes and Boone lawyers, please point your cease-and-desist cannon at Breck Demers, the very cordial Canadian I just spoke to who nonetheless is purloining our material for his One Stop Newsstand site.

  1. What did you say to him?

  2. @Avid Reader: I asked him where I should send the invoice. He sort of laughed. Demers said he was just taking our RSS feed and could do nothing about it.

(Side note: as opposed to, say, the Observer, which sends truncated versions of its posts through its RSS feed, requiring you to click through to their site, we send out the entire post in our RSS feed.)

I told Demers there certainly WAS something he could do. He could limit how much of our content he was reposting, rather than stealing entire posts, which is not cricket. Then I told him he could expect a C&D letter, and we hung up pleasantly.

  4. Looks like he’s playing nice now – no D Mag to be found in my quick looking.

  5. @Towski, he probably appreciates the back link to his site even more, it helps when it comes to Google.

@Tim, you should remove the hyperlink to ONS, having it plain text is fine; you don’t want to reward this jerk off, trust me it’s nerd stuff.
