  1. It is absolutely crushing — given the wasteland they were unknowingly on the precipice of — to hear Brent Musberger talk in that third clip about how, with the Mavericks’ young talent, he could absolutely see them taking over the reins of the Western Conference over the next five years or so. That’s how close things are.

  2. I firmly believe that if you gave Dirk and Jet porn staches, fed Tyson Chandler enough coke for a foursome of 972 interlopers to get through a weekend and then threw them all in shorts that would be considered banana hammocks by today’s standards, the Mavericks would be unstoppable.

  3. Cool. Thanks for this, Zac. A couple of thoughts:

    1) Lakers games used to be LOUD. I know they played in The Forum back then, but it was a rowdier crowd in L.A. back in the day. If you filled The Forum today with current Lakers fans, the noise level wouldn’t come anywhere close to what it was back then. Too much of the “cocaine and boob job” crowd (AAC and Staples Center crowds aren’t all that different these days, unfortunately).

    2) I wish the Mavs had an alternate jersey that looked like the ’88 ones. That “Dallas” font is great.

  4. No doubt about it…Norm Sonju and Rick Sund were the best AND worst front office duo in the NBA in the 1980s.
