Last we heard from former Channel 5 anchor Brendan Higgins, he was working on a new TV show called Wasted America. The title made me think that Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Kerouac were co-producing. I was ready for the first episode. Well, it took awhile, but I think I just saw that first episode, and instead of Wasted America the show is now called It’s Good to Have Friends With Brendan Higgins. Pardon? Now, apparently, Margaret Wise Brown is producing (that’s a Goodnight Moon joke, in case you missed it).
In the first episode, Higgins and Kent Rathbun spend a day together, taking in some of Dallas’ delights. They go to a Rangers game. They go to a Mavericks game. They stroll the Katy Trail together before hitting the Katy Trail Ice House. Then the two men repair to Higgins’ Uptown Bachelor pad, where he gets to third base with Rathbun.
Okay, I made up that last part. Actually, the show ends with Higgins scarfing pizza at Sfuzzi and telling us: “It’s good to turn up the volume on life.”
WHAT? Brendan Higgins, please explain yourself.

Me thinks this is Bren Bren’s audition tape to become the next host of Carson Daly’s “Last Call.” Fun drinking game to play while you watch: take a shot every time Brenners uses the word “like.”
You learn something new every day. I wasn’t aware that Kent Rathbun had won the prestigious “Steven Beard Award.”
timmy, Timmy, TIMMY! What did we say about asking, and THEN posting? “Wasted America” is a different show about stupid government spending. That pilot isn’t available to show right now, as it is undergoing some changes, but it just got funding and distribution is being negotiated.
“It’s Good to Have Friends” is a travel show intended for distribution on airplanes. Top destinations will have their own version of the show. That’s about all I can say about it right now, as we are in negotiations on that deal as well.
I love you, Timmy Typer…….Brendan
@Brendan: If I’m honest, the thing that drives me the craziest about It’s Good to Have Friends is that you didn’t pick ME as your Dallas friend.
And this is the internet, man. You know the rules. Post first, ask questions later.
Excellent point, Jason. Kent did not win an award for being a fun-loving Dallas realtor with great hair. He did however, win the James Beard award for spellbindingly plying his trade in the kitchen.
I can see the Travel channel picking this up, unless they already have a show like it? And change the name to “Yes Reservations”
Ok Tim…Smith, Rogers, Higgins = episode # 2. Seriously. You take us to Monk and some Lakewood place…we’ll take care of the rest.
Would the flight featuring “Have Friends” offer me some viewing options? Because I’m going to be forced to work the airline mag’s sudoku puzzle if this is all that’s available.
Hooray for the fish eye lens.
@Brendan: I’m not sure who this “Smith” man is, but I’m only up for a threesome if it involves a slow-mo walk on the Katy Trail.
Brendon:
At this point in your life, it’s not a good idea to lean forward into the camera (unless you’re wearing a hat).
I will definitely watch Episode 2, though — if anything to find out who this “Smith” guy (or girl!) is.
