It’s Bus Route 405 that’s affected. Apparently getting too dangerous after dark:
The loop over Southern Oaks Boulevard and Overton Road will not be served after 8 p.m. Southbound buses will operate over Overton Road to Illinois Avenue and continue to Ledbetter Station. Service northbound to Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station will travel the same route in reverse. The normal route will be operated at all other hours (please see map below).
The detour is prompted by safety concerns for bus operators and passengers and will remain in effect until further notice.

So what’s going on at John Phelps park after 8? Sounds like a party.
It would be interesting to know if there is a precedent for this sort of thing. Having lived in New York and other major metropolitan areas with their fair share of dicey neighborhoods, I can’t recall another instance in which a bus route was modified due to a perception of crime in a specific area.
Then again, this is DART, the same agency that refused to send its employees out onto platforms to tell riders that snow and ice had resulted in the cancellation of service because it was too cold for their employees to exit their comfy vehicles with the heaters cranked up to full blast.
You’ll have to use your own car to find out. Good luck.
Was/were there some kind of incident(s) we have not heard about?
Umm, DART Police, hello? Nah, real criminals are too dangerous. Stick to hassling jaywalkers.
I could understand if it’s Phelps Park. There is a paved asphalt path that connects the park to Wonderview Park and Boren-Hilseweck Park. The anti-vehicle bollards are removed and you can drive from Phelps Park, through the woods to the backside of a basketball court. Or stop and do something in the bushes. Or hang a right on a dirt road and drive around on Mark Cuban’s land. The apartment complexes on either end of the parks are something out of what the BBC shows going on currently in the Ivory Coast. Bad, bad, bad place.
Wylie — “a perception of crime?” Which part of rocks and bricks and broken glass do you not understand?
