Cliff Lee and His Stupid Phillies On SI Cover

photo (21)Dear Cliff Lee:

Hahahaha. I don’t mean to sound bitter after you rejected us, but seriously, ha! I was all ready to just boo you and cast strongly worded, disparaging remarks in your general direction, but you punished yourself.

You and your Phillies pitching buddies are on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated. Everybody knows there’s a curse involved with being on the cover of Sports Illustrated. This never would’ve happened if you had chosen the Rangers. There’s nothing really noteworthy about a team signing an ace pitcher. Signing twelvety-hundred of them, though? Noteworthy. Noteworthy enough to get you on the cover of Sports Illustrated, where, as I mentioned before, there is a curse attached.

So you enjoy your so-called better weather and stuff, but remember that this curse probably means your arm is going to fall off or you’ll get a raging case of hemorroids and will never be able to sit comfortably in the team plane again. And when this bad stuff happens, you remember that this never would’ve happened if you had just chosen the Rangers.

Yours truly,

Me

  1. I want to be angry. I want to be bitter. I want to hate Cliff for not re-signing here. But I just can’t. ALDS Game 5. ALCS game 3. The sports happiness he gave me last October will forever exist as part of my baseball soul. I hope he goes 30-0 this year, and if the Phils make the WS, I’ll be rooting for him to win a ring. Unless they’re playing the Rangers of course.

  3. Can’t say I’m upset at all about what happened. If Lee didn’t want to be here, then good riddance. His contract will look about as cost effective as Michael Young’s a few years from now.

  5. My ultimate fantasy is that Cliff Lee and A-Rod get caught in a Cleveland hotel snorting coke off of Jessica Simpson.

  6. My only comment about this article is that last year’s opening day cover had Roy Halladay on it. So much for that curse; he had arguably the best season of his career thus far throwing a perfect game and a no hitter in the playoffs. If that is a curse bring it on!

  7. Why anyone would have any anger whatsoever towards Cliff Lee is beyond me. He took less money to play in a city he loves. Which one of us wouldn’t do the same? Without him, I don’t get to experience the best month of my sporting life and I can’t wait to give him a standing ovation the next time he’s in Arlington.

  8. I once was asked by MLB for thoughts on how to make the league more relevant to a wider audience. That picture sums up their problem quite well.

  9. I thought he chose the Phillies because the best hospital for his sick kid is there… or was that some sick PR ploy to help us get over our rejection?

  12. It’s ashame that this one dope who wrote the article gives Rangers fans a bad rap, when obviously by the comments, they have zero animostity towards Lee.

  13. @meh – yes and no, his son (I think… Maybe daughter) is in remission from cancer, but yes, he wanted to be near chop. And he just loved it here. But, you know, he was with you guys for a year… And you offered him more money… I don’t really understand how you can cut down a guy for going where he and his family are happy. And wanting to be a part of what he have… Sure, he didn’t want to be the standout ace, or take a huge some of money – you really pick the right players to hate, don’t you?

  14. As a Phillies fan it was the best feeling ever when he came back here! But the worst feeling ever when he was traded… with that said everyone I knew was cheering for the Rangers to win the World Series! Can’t say I would ever do the same for your NFL team! :)

  15. The decision came down to this.

Pitch alongside Halladay,Oswalt,Hamels or CJ Wilson,Tommy Hunter, and Colby Lewis.

Any sane person would have chosen the former and thats no disrespect to the Rangers pitchers.
