Welcome to the weekend. It’s going to be a bit of a doozy, as I celebrate not being trapped in my house.
Friday
Starting today, the Magnolia is screening all the short films (animated and live action) nominated for an Academy Award. You could probably watch them online, but honestly, haven’t we spent enough time cuddling with our laptops the past couple of weeks?
I have it on good authority that the gigantic Fashion Industry Gallery Finale sale is not to be missed. The lovely Raya Ramsey over at ShopTalk tells me that the designer deals are just incredible, and I believe her. I know, I know. For some of you, tonight is “date night,” not “shopping night.” But ladies (and gents), if your date is in dire need of a new pair of pants, consider this a public service announcement.
Saturday
The Crow Collection of Asian Art is celebrating the Year of the Rabbit a week late thanks to nasty weather. There will be activities for the kids and a traditional Lion Dance that starts at 10:30 am. I’m of the opinion that it’s never too late to try and score some good luck, so bring your red envelope.
Recently I learned that Denton-based musician Sarah Jaffe and I have something in common: a mutual love of Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill. The similarities end there. She’s an incredibly talented singer/songwriter, and I am so tone death. See her perform tonight at the Wyly Theatre.
Sunday
No one in Dallas will let me forget the fact that Valentine’s Day is Monday, with all these themed events going on. Whether you’re single or coupled up, there’s bound to be something for you. Check out Romeo and Juliet at the Winspear Opera House (warning: probably not for good for those who are already depressed) or the Smooch the Pooch Paw-Ty at Foxy Paws pet store.
For more weekend revelry, including free wine tastings, gallery openings, and an appearance by a Russian Orthodox archbishop, go here.
