During an extended online chat on Friday afternoon, ESPN’s Bill Simmons was asked what he thought of the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a Super Bowl site:
It will be a more fun version of Houston, with better food, and the stadium will make up for any weaknesses with the weekend. This could be the first SB Weekend when the experience of attending the game (and being in the stadium) trumps anything that could have happened during the weekend.
That prompted two responses from Texas that made me giggle:
Dallas more fun than Houston? It’s our state’s version of the Jersey Shore. You must have an affinity for cocaine and shiny shirts.
Look, the best Texas city is Austin, hands down. But Dallas is way more fun than Houston, unless you like humidity and obesity.

These commenters are creating a false dichotomy. It’s perfectly possible for an obese person to wear a shiny shirt which, owing to the humidity, sticks to his glazed flesh as he snurfs up a line of coke. This is even happening in Austin, as we speak — I stake my reputation on it. And not my reputation as a an Adderall-munching prostitute who’s unfit for civilized company, either – my other reputation.
CRAP. I just moved to Houston from Dallas as of the New Year and have been regretting it ever since. Stupid Job Relocation. I can feel myself already getting fatter.
Austin is not all that great. 1/4 of Austin is cool. The remaining 3/4s looks like Garland.

East Dallas and Oak Cliff are much better than Austin and way cooler!
I think of Arlington as the Houston of North Texas.
