  1. ..but it makes President McCain feel good, so…”build the dang fence!”

  2. Perhaps they should have built a border jumping spider or warped wall.

  3. …but it should be very effective in keeping out extremely pregnant women and octogenarians.

  4. Cute athletic women, poles, sliding — it’s a good thing FB now has moderated comments!

  5. As long as they stay on the U.S. side, it’s OK.

  6. And these looked like 2 french-fry-noshing, well-fed Anglo girls. Just think how fast you could scale the wall if you had poverty, hunger, and the border patrol nipping at your heels.

  7. fences serve as a boundary marker, as well as discouraging folks from crossing the line. the vast majority will see the fence and keep moving until they find an opening. back in the 19th century the Brits built a thorny hedgerow fence across India with selective openings. the fence was difficult to cross, so the migrants were channeled to move towards the openings.
this video only proves that young healthy women who haven’t trekked hundreds of miles and burdened with a backpack can climb the fence

  8. Of course, some concertina wire across the top of the fence would make their little jaunt up it irrelevant. Btw, has Andrew Sullivan figured out who Trig Palins real mom is yet?

  9. The hundreds of miles of border walls built so far have cost $3 billion, but have had zero impact on immigration or smuggling, according to both academic and government reports. They serve solely as a prop for politicians to stand in front of when they want to look tough. The cost, in terms of dollars, condemnations of private property (400+ in Texas), and environmental damage means nothing to them, so long as they have the campaign backdrop.

  10. @ Doug: Let me guess. You represent the Concertina Wire Manufactorers Association. Nice product plug. Well done, sir.

  11. Funny how we want to tear down walls in the middle-east and in Germany but we love building them in N America.

  12. An easier solution would be to penalize those that hire illegals. A non-negotiable $20,000 fine every time you are caught hiring an illegal alien fry-cook or landscaper would cause the flood to dry up pretty quick.

  13. The crying shame about this is we’re keeping the only ones with the American Dream in their hearts out of the country.

They’re the only ones that truly believe that if you work hard you will get ahead in the United States of America.

If you doubt me, find a mirror, better yet, ask a kid.

  14. Ah, the futile Maginot Line. As one smart man said, we are condemned to repeat it.

  15. I discussed stiffer laws against employers with a factory manager in Tulsa. He said that when the OK law was passed they lost most of their workers.

This shocked the management of the factory. They had made sure all of their employees were legal so they assumed that the new wouldn’t affect them.

The problem was the legals had relatives that weren’t legal working around the area. When the illegals were forced to leave to find other jobs the legals followed, family, important to some people.

The hard work, you can’t get anyone legal to do it these days.

I personally believe the biggest reason for that is single parents, mothers. Mama’s raise mama’s boys. Mama’s boys aren’t going to do hard work because someone else will do it. But mama’s boy, nah, that’s too hard for mama’s boy.

I’m in construction. We get a boy in that has a father in his life we find something a little extra in there when things get difficult. There’s a competitive spirit that comes with being the son of a father.

That extra something isn’t there with the boys raised by women.

    Sorry.

If you doubt me, look around. There are exceptions and then is the rule. Rule rules.

  16. Maybe the border fence could work backwards. Let the illegal aliens (that’s what the term actually is) in without issue, but stop the ones who try to flee to after commiting crime.

  17. As a son of a single mother, let me just say that I was expected to bust my butt even more so because my father wasn’t around. My mother worked all day and came home to 3 kids to take care of. She expected me and my sisters to pull some weight around the house and be independent. If more men were responsible and actually took care of their children, those boys would have a fatherly influence. Don’t put down single mothers for getting it done the best way they can.
