Bottom of the morning to you, readers. In case you weren’t aware, today is Veterans Day. Please join me in thanking the men and women who defend or have defended: your country and its interests, your freedom, your right to vote, and your right to complain about the outcome of the recent midterm elections. Seriously. Hug a vet today. And now, please follow me to the next page, where I’ve whipped up some excellent choices (if I do say so myself, which I do) for your evening amusement.
For the civic minded: the Friends of the Santa Fe Trail group is meeting tonight to toast its recent successes and to discuss plans for the future. If you’re among those who really do care about alternative modes of transportation thriving in this city (as opposed to those for whom cycling is merely an exercise in self-righteousness) you should consider attending this shindig. I know a couple of these Friends, and I can personally attest that they’re earnest, intelligent folks who do more than just talk about change.
For the beauty junkies: Go get your nails done did at Ristorante Nicola, which continues its Martinis & Manicures series tonight. Be sure to ask for extra olives, and then save them for me. Thanks.
For the music lovers: Levon Helm Band and Ray Lamontagne are playing at Verizon Theatre. I suspect many of you have heard of Levon Helm, but Ray Lamontagne is newer to the scene. If you watch television, though, you’ve probably heard “Trouble,” which plays in a television ad that’s been airing for what seems like an eternity (not that I mind, because it contains doggies and the tune is decent). Or, you could go hear French music at the Meyerson. I’m not the hugest fan of impressionist music (ask me why sometime, but be prepared for a long and impassioned explanation). However, you might like it just fine, and that’s within your rights. And if you’re not familiar with Ravel and Debussy, this concert is a good place to start.
Not feeling it? Then do yourself a favor and check out the other things to do in Dallas I’ve dug up for the express purpose of pleasing you people. Also, have a great night.
