Awesome post. I agree. 1982 influenced my early life in a huge way. C’mon Rangers! Think of the children, the children!

Fans of the St. Louis Cardinals — the team with the second-most World Series titles, having won nearly 10% of all the Fall Classics that have been played — have no frame of reference from which to comfort Texas fans.
If the Rangers do end up falling to the Giants, it is to us Chicago Cubs fanatics they should turn for solace. 50 years without a championship? That’s nothing.

The Cubs are the heart and in the heart of Chicago. The Rangers are neither to Dallas. No matter if Rangers win or lose, 98% of the population will not give it a second thought past November. On to the next shiny thing…
What would the hapless Cubbies do if they actually won in modern times?
(Go Rangers!)

Count me among the 2% then. Go Rangers!!

Beating the Yankees for the pennant was angsty.
This here is just plain, unadulterated fun!

Will never forget ‘82, Cards/Brewers. It was my freshman year of college, and I was a huge Cardinals fan. In one of the games, I lost a girlfriend because she wanted “to talk” during the latter innings of a game. And in game 7, a bunch of guys were watching in a dorm room, and one of the guys was handing out prop bets for the last out. My roommate got (only) 10 to 1 odds for “Gorman Thomas strikes out”. And that’s what happened.
And to Seven… not sure I’m buying it. The Cubs aren’t even the favorite team of all Chicagoans, with the White Sox being in town. That said, I appreciate that Cubs fans are long-suffering.

@Lisa: Absolutely! The Rangers faithful deserve it. Savor the moments, even if they aren’t all grand.
@Mm: Hell, I don’t know, but to the outside world looking in, the Sox don’t come to mind as Chicago’s team, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not. IJS
