The New York Times has announced that it will start covering Texas on Friday and Saturday in a zoned edition, partnering with the Texas Tribune for its content.
Apparently similar editions in San Francisco and Chicago have done well. TT’s editor, Evan Smith, will edit the content for the Grey Lady in addition to what he already does at the Tribune.
So would you read about Texas in a New York paper?

They they think we are the last people standing who have any money to spend.
@Candy… or any tales that haven’t been told and yes, I’d read about Texas in any paper.. I like fiction as well as fact.
TT’s deal with the NYT begs the question. Does the Texas Tribune still make Wick yawn? Is he still unimpressed? http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2009/11/03/texas-tribune-launches-i-yawn.
@Candy
Tip of the day. Newspapers typically expand coverage where it helps them drive additional revenues.
Clearly, they don’t think we are the “last people standing” since they have also launched editions in SF and Chi. This looks like a smart business move, and another leg up on the morphing and aggressive WSJ.
I can’t wait for the NYT to write something about Dallas real estate, so Candy can go investigate where the writer lives and what kind of political yard signs he has…
@Towski: Me, too! Especially when that writer implies information that may not be accurate. But think of the even bigger megaphone I will have for the de-annexation of Preston Hollow!
(Looking up Towski home on DCAD right now…)
I just love that the Texas Tribune has managed such a tremendous partnership. Evan Smith proved his stuff at TxMo, and this nonprofit venture is producing incredible journalism every day. Major props to TxTrib for stellar work, all in one year!
Just today in the mail, NYT sent me some junk mail advertising their Texas focused weekend edition. $5.20 a week for Fri-Sat-Sun. I get alot of mail here in “The Bubble” for stuff like this. And shake my head. I have spied a couple Robb Reports in a few neighbors bathrooms. Guess they incorrectly assume everyone is made of money here as a result. Like the time everyone on my block got information packets for Gulfstream jets. Really? Really.

Re: Preston Hollow De-Annexation
This story is pure fools gold. Great for selling a few magazines – maybe DMN will bite on a slow news day – but so ludicrous that it’s laughable.
Is it too late to re-write the story? Here’s an angle: bored N. Dallas housewives desperate for new hobby.
B+ for your carnival skills
D- as an intriguing story

I’m addicted to NYT, but the overriding feeling I get from its regular-edition Texas stories is that its editors think Texas and Texans are ridiculous.
Failed bit, WSJ tried it 15 years ago.
@Helen, agreed. Most stuff they write about Texas (and all of our “flyover state” neighbors)reeks of snobbish detachment.
