Tom Hicks Owns Liverpool No More

Tom Hicks lost Liverpool after the court lifted the restraining order against the sale of the club to Red Sox owners New England Sports Ventures. Basically, the judge here – Jim Jordan – lifted the RO and the contempt citations against NESV because Hicks was asking for the same thing here that English courts had already denied.

My favorite part of this story?

“Hicks will continue with his suit that asks for $1.6 billion in damages against the club, arguing that the board and the Royal Bank of Scotland conspired to make Hicks lose money.”

Does anyone really have to help Hicks lose money on sports teams? He’s basically his own personal cooler, right?

Leading Off (10/15/10)

1. The last showdown between Danny Clancy and Dallas County DA Craig Watkins happened at Friendship West Baptist Church last night. Watkins said Clancy is a lying liar who lies, and Clancy said Watkins needs to do something about voter fraud in Dallas County.

2. Six World War II veterans insist they weren’t dressed like hobos, but were dressed comfortably, when the hostess at  Wolfgang Puck’s Five Sixty refused them entry based on their attire. The story shows that these men – all in their 80s and 90s – had remarkably strong senses of humor about the incident.

3. Maybe it’s a bad time to be older, inappropriately dressed, and eating at a restaurant.

4. No link for this, but this morning I awoke to find a neighbor’s e-mail, telling me last night she saw a coyote crossing Midway Road, near St. Monica Catholic Church. It had someone’s pet in its mouth. So if you live  near the Midway Hollow/Preston Hollow area, you might want to keep your pets in at night. And yourself. And then shout very loudly as you exit your house, “THIS IS THE CITY, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE. GO AWAY, PERHAPS TO FRISCO OR SUNNYVALE.” I hear that works.

5.  It’s Friday. The Rangers are playing the Yankees. College football all over the television. It’s Fall, and it’s time to drag out the fire pit and drink beers in your back yard.
