Sharron Angle Decries Muslim Law in Bent Tree

sharron angleNevada Republican Senatorial candidate Angle suggests that two towns in America — Dearborn, Michigan and Frankford, Texas — are now under the control of Sharia law. You can hear the tape here:

In responding to a question, she answers:

“We’re talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe isn’t a widespread thing. But it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it. My thoughts are these. First of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under Constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don’t know how that happened in the United States. It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.”

The problem is not just with Ms. Angle’s coherence. Frankford, Texas has not existed since it was annexed by Dallas in 1975. The area is now better known as Bent Tree, one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Texas.

  • Rawlins Gilliland

Now, Wick. Picky, picky. So it was Sharia law that killed Prestonwood? Priceless.

  • Steve

She’s is the vanguard of the serious conservative intellectual movement.

  • David

Only affluent because they don’t pay interest on debt. You know, because they adhere to Sharia law…

  • Daniel

She didn’t say Frankford, Texas, wasn’t annexed by Dallas. She only said that it’s on American soil. And that it’s not governed by Sharia law. And that she doesn’t know how it came instead to be governed by Constutional law, right here on American soil. And that ostensibly it’s a “militant terrorist situation” that has led us down this road of ignominy.

  • Hidyhoo

Please, it’s pretty clear to any sensible person that Ms. Angle meant Frankfurt, Texas. Frankford is a misquote or a misspelling for Frankfurt, Texas.

Sadly, Frankfurt is a town that not only does not exist, it has never existed. Sort of like the “militant terrorist situation” that currently controls Dearborn, Michigan.

How about pointing out some of the stupid things that Reid has said over his career. You and the rest of the liberal press want to concentrate on stupid things by a new comer….how about spending some time rehashing the stupid things the establishment have said…..

But oh no….that wouldn’t fit the script.

  • Lee

Barry Goldwater must be rolling in his grave. What a ruin these nuts have made of the Republican Party.

  • Daniel

    Doug,

I would, sir, but I frankly don’t have the time. I’m quite busy, thank you, cross breeding mice and humans, thus producing mice with fully functioning brains — right here in this country. You should see the looks on their faces when it first dawns on them they’re mortal! And that the gross fuzzy vermin in the mirror are, well, them.

Their one advantage is that they’re easy to beat at board games, which is the whole reason I bred them in the first place (with Nancy Pelosi’s invaluable help, of course). They keep putting hotels on St. Charles Place, God bless’em.

    Yours etc.

    Daniel

  • JS

    She meant Frankford Road!

  • Another Doug

I’m sure this story making the rounds today has nothing to do with this.

Here’s how deceitful Sharon Angle really is: she has a TV spot running in Nevada claiming that Harry Reid supports letting sex offenders and child predators get Viagra. Shocking, no? It’s also the kind of dishonesty we’d punish our own 14-year old for if they spun such a tale about a broken vase in the den.

In truth, senate repubs tossed up a bunch of silly amendments to the heath care bill at a time when the bill had to pass “as is,” with no changes, or else it would have to go back to the House for yet another re-vote. Repubs knew the dems would vote against any and all amendments, so they purposely worded them, for cheap laughs, in the juciest ways possible. One amendment said that Viagra would NOT be part of the health care package.

The dems were not voting to let sex offenders get Viagra, they were simply voting down all parliamentary roadblocks by repubs, and both sides knew it. Yet now it’s being spun to the great unwashed as Harry Reid wanting sex offenders to get Viagra.

This is the kind of juvenile dishonesty that turns reasonably intelligent folks off from the political process.

Angle best be careful. Unlike other states, Nevada lets you vote “None Of The Above.” ‘Ol Harry would love nothing better than to have moderate and independent repubs in his state split their vote between Angle and None.

Her comments do not make sense. That being said, are there any specifics regarding why she said or thinks this other than random comments about there being large muslim populations in these areas? Need some background or at least a little detail…

  • shopper

What a joke. This woman just keeps proving her ignorance.

  • http://www.jackejett.com jack e. jett

I could have swore that Sharia Law was a drag queen in NYC.

  • Julie

Even her party brethren can’t take it…

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/43328.html

We can write her off as crazy, but Wick–how do you feel about a smart guy like Newt Gingrich issuing warnings about sharia law in the US?

  • lonestar

Angle is not stupid, but I am thinking most Americans are. I suggest Angle was researching the “Muslim Brotherhood” trial–from Dallas!
There is a large muslim community all around FRANKFORD RD. The FBI connected dots, exposed businesses that are fronts-funding hamas-plo and terrorists. Do some research–drive around the mosques in n Dallas. I would–but I moved!
Angle did not just dream up her info. I believe it came from our own FBI…

  • Rawlins Gilliland

So what if Sharron Angle confuses John Wayne with John wayne Gacy. Maybe vanilla Ice WAS a sno-come. So what IF she grew up writing fan mail to her then idol ‘Sara Lee Cheescake’? Cut her some slack!

  • Neal

It’s not like any of our current senators and congresspeople are better informed or smarter than she is. Patrick Leahy? David Vitter? Pete Sessions? Eddie Bernice Johnson? John Boehner? Nancy Pelosi? Harry Reid for that matter? Corrupt losers and/or idiots. All of them. Sharron Angle will fit right in. She can screech about Bent Tree sharia all she wants. It will be a lot more interesting than watching Barbara Boxer pull skin off her face or whatever it is she does all day.

  • Bill Marvel

    lonestar,
My guess is that Angle doesn’t know the meaning of research, else she wouldn’t be making such huge grinning gaffs. My guess is that some staff person stumbled across something and misunderstood it and passed it along to her, and now she’s passing it along to — God help them — her supporters.
This is always the way it is with extreme partisanship. It’s what you imagine, what you want other folks to imagine, that counts, not what IS.
I’m tired of folks on the right AND the left inventing convoluted arguments to justify this kind of sloppy thought. Why not just admit it for once: Angle’s a dunce twice over. Once for spouting such nonsense and twice over for trying to get the rest of us to buy it.
It’s not “liberals,” folks. It’s not “conservatives.” It’s partisanship.

  • Arec Barrwin

Yes, Sharron Angle isn’t the brightest. But everyone’s missing the point — the only reason she’s leading in the polls is the horrible job the Democrats are doing.

  • walt

@Daniel and Jack E. Jett: Love you both.

And Sharron Angle is running for office, and continually says bat-sh*t insane things.

I recall Harry Reid being called out for his Obama/Negro comment.

The big mean liberal DMagazine isn’t out to bury Sharron Angle. I suspect they’re happy she’s running merely for the continued material she provides.
