Remember when poster board and Marks-A-Lots powered up Mustang spirit? Looks like the Heights at Park Lane has taken boosterism to a whole new level for this weekend’s football game between SMU and TCU.

While an SMU upset of a team in the top five would be great for Dallas and the program, the chance of that happening is about as good as Tim Rogers NOT eating his coworkers lunches. IJS.

This is Dallas v Ft. Worth now…

The amount of money SMU is wasting to promote getting their butts kicked by a top 5 ranked team is amazing. There is this, the 5000 signs in and around the campus promoting “Fill the Ford”, the banner on the building on Central and for the last 2 days, the plane flying up and down 75 pulling a banner.
Oh, wait. I forgot. Winner gets an Iron Skillet. Never mind. Waste away, SMU!

@bw Yes, SMU is spending a lot of money to publicize a very likely loss to TCU. But probably not in an effort to just fill seats for one game. They are trying to build a local fan base beyond alumni and that’s going involve reaching out to the community. The marketing and athletic departments are thinking long term fan development. Much like TCU started doing about 10 years ago, and look where they are now (#4).

My rational brain tells me that the Ponies don’t have a chance, but still, this is cool. Pony up indeed!

Whats so wrong about SMU trying to build their fan base BW? Their odds of winning this particular game are irrelevant to their goal.

@ Matt R,
I agree with you completely, but building the local fan base gets lost when your going against Friday night High School football. I’m disappointed that I won’t be going to the SMU game, it should be a great atmosphere.

@D The game being on Friday night was likely driven by ESPN and not the two schools.
