1. More than 46,000 people showed up last night at the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Rangers take on the Yankees. And in the 10th inning, David Murphy did that. I’m still trying to figure this out. I mean, it’s football season, right?
2. The city of Dallas is once again making it harder for cool things to happen (see also: food trucks). Now they’re putting rules and restrictions on community gardens.
3. And if you haven’t heard yet, the motorcycle crash during President Obama’s motorcade was caused, apparently, by a pothole — or, as the cops are calling it, an “unforeseen road hazard.” Hereinafter, all typos and grammatical errors on this blog will be referred to as “unforeseen word problems.” Just like the city, we are are struggling to find money in our budget to fix them.

Hang on. I’m trying to catch my breath. Something has happened.
I don’t have a problem with a group of gardeners submitting some kind of proof that the owner of the property gave them permission. That seems solid.
But why the fee? And why the concern? It takes something very good and well, organic, like a group of neighbors getting together to do something good and turns it into yet another bureaucratic hurdle to being neighborly.
We have 2 problems that require one solution. Fire the folks on the city staff who are coming up with preposterous regulations about community gardens and put their salaries toward fixing the potholes. And Bethany can petition to begin a sanitation-worker middle-finger-amputation program too.
I should so totally be the King of Dallas.
Did anybody else notice what happened when A-Rod hit that homer to centerfield in the 7th or 8th (can’t remember exactly)? There was the usual scramble for the ball and as always one guy got it. Well, the crowd was walking back to their seats and the guy who got the ball was holding it up in one hand to celebrate and then some guy ran up behind him and snatched the ball out of his hands.
That’s when the camera cut away, so i don’t know if it was a friend of his or just some d-bag trying to steal the ball. But between the guy jumping in front of the kid to get a foul ball, the other guy dodging the foul ball and letting it hit his girlfriend and this, seems like some fans need etiquette lessons for the ballpark.
Honestly, doesn’t the City have better things to do than to compose regulations and fees for community gardens? I second Bethany’s comment that it’s a “bureaucratic hurdle to being neighborly.” The whole thing makes me want to shove a fork in my eye.
What does the $215 annual permit fee go towards? What service is the City providing? They already get parking money from the meters when you GO to City Hall to apply for the permit…
Dallas. A World-Class Backwater. (TM)
The World Cup was over a month ago. Wasn’t that the end of football season?
Why are people around here so jazzed about food trucks? Go live in a city with food trucks. The charm quickly wears off. Yuck.
