It was too hot to truly enjoy Lakeside Park, as idyllic a spot as it is, when D Magazine online editorial intern Ryan Jones took a look around Highland Park. (He’s touring all of the best suburbs of Dallas on this year’s ranking.)
So Ryan set himself the challenge of enjoying Highland Park Village on a limited budget.
Here’s his report.

Dear Online Editorial Intern Ryan,
You’re handling this series quite capably, entertainingly, even. Not easy. But.
Well, my Mom said it best when I was at the tender age of seven: For Christ’s sake, Daniels*, she snorted. You’ve had five-and-a-half Bellinis. And you admit it?!
But Mom, I countered weakly, grasping instantly that my nascent manhood had, in her eyes, permanently withered. They only cost a buck, and I was so hot from shoveling coal all day.
She derisively threw my sister’s Barbie at me and mumbled go play with this why don’t you. I shed great tears of hot bitter shame.
Fin.

I can’t think of anyplace else to DO anything in HP proper but The HP Village. I guess you could get a fancy car wash down the street, maybe get a book at the library. Oh then there is the bar at Javier’s………..
I think Javier’s is in Dallas…
