Dallas Mavericks’ Popeye Jones, Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant Join D Magazine Words With Friends Tournament

wwf_article2Today is your last chance to enter for a shot to play in the D Magazine Words With Friends Tournament, which starts June 1. You have until 5 p.m. if you’ve not already signed up. Participants who have been selected will be notified tomorrow.

Why play?  Because you might have a chance to go up against former Dallas Mavericks player (and current Mavs coach) Popeye Jones. During your match, he might pull a play like this one on you.

Or you could find yourself head to head with Dallas Morning News sports writer (and the Benedict Arnold of the D Empire) Evan Grant. You can ask him just when we can expect this year’s Texas Rangers collapse to begin.

We’re mere days away from the most exciting word-based game tournament hosted by the website of a city or regional magazine! Ever!

  1. That picture of Evan made me laugh out loud — and wonder if he’d just fellated a Smurf.

  2. All these famous people (famous to me, at least) keep signing up, and my chances of getting a seat at the table keep getting smaller and smaller.

  3. @WWF Lover: We’ve heard this complaint from a few people. It doesn’t make send to me. The winner gets nothing but bragging rights, so the only point of playing is getting a shot at playing against a celeb. And remember 2/3 of the spots are still up for grabs. Good luck.

  4. If I get a spot in the tourney, I’m going to try to set up side bets with opponents. I bet I’ll find some takers. I’ll pretend I don’t speak English, then hustle ‘em. Por supuesto.

  5. Huh, Tim? “The winner gets nothing but bragging rights, so the only point of playing is getting a shot at playing against a celeb.” Clearly you do not have a love for the world’s greatest iPhone app EVER if you really think that.

If I love tennis, one match is great, but a bracketed tournament is that much better. More is on the line with every match. No one and done with my every day opponent. I get to ADVANCE to the next level, facing better and better opponents the furhter along the way I go. All the while playing my favorite sport.

I don’t enter the bracket to play a celeb. I just enter to play a game I love in a different kind of format.
