Dallas Art Fair Generates Enormous, Unmitigated, No-Holds-Barred Controversial Controversy!!

At the conclusion of the Dallas Art Fair, local (but international) artist Richard Patterson offered up a wonderful (and not entirely positive) critique of the proceedings. Today, FrontRow brings you a rebuttal from Chris Byrne, co-founder of the fair. An intelligent discussion about art and what it means to Dallas? Nice. The only problem here is that FrontRow has set the bar for itself pretty high in its first week of existence.

  1. I liked Patterson’s critique, very constructive. He told hard truths and gave an international assessment of the event. In short, he threw down the gauntlet and ask that Dallas be as big and sophisticated as it likes to profess to being. That may mean listening to what artists think.

Patterson makes a good case in getting rid of bottlenecks caused by the preponderance of booze as an opening focal point instead of the art; for “cutting the dead branches”; and losing those vestiges of regionalism that cheapen the local scene. A breath of fresh air and a swift kick in the pants. Nicely done.
