It was bound to happen: the cheesy mayoral bet over a big sporting event. It used to be that these things happened when two cities’ teams made it to the championship. But considering recent Cowboys history, I suppose a first round playoff game against a wild card team is worth a bet. So Mayor Tom supports his Cowboys in this friendly wager with Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter. At stake: a catered lunch, Texas BBQ vs. Philly cheesesteaks. One question: did anyone call the mayor of Arlington? (Release after the jump.)

AYOR LEPPERT BETS ON THE COWBOYS!
Dallas & Philadelphia Mayors Make Friendly Wager on Playoff Game
Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter have entered into a friendly wager on the outcome of this Saturday’s NFL playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The bet: The losing team’s mayor will provide lunch for the winning mayor’s team of Habitat for Humanity volunteers. Both mayors already volunteer for Habitat and are longtime supporters of the not-for-profit organization.

If Philly wins on Saturday, Mayor Leppert pledged to provide Mayor’s Nutter’s team at Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia with Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse barbecue and Dr. Pepper.
“Having lulled the Cowboys into a false sense of security, the Eagles will come out and dominate the Cowboys in a game that actually matters,” said Mayor Nutter. “We will make sure there is an extra seat on the plane back to Philly for barbecue and Dr. Pepper.”
If Dallas wins, Mayor Nutter will send Mayor Leppert’s team at the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity some Philly cheesesteaks and Tastykakes, both signature food items of Philadelphia.
“I’m sure our Dallas Habitat will be pleased to get Michael’s tasty contribution,” said Mayor Leppert. “I can taste those Philly cheesesteaks now!”
Dallas defeated Philadelphia 24-0 in the final regular season game on Sunday and won the NFC East. The Cowboys will host the Eagles again in a wild-card game at Cowboys Stadium at 7:00PM Saturday night.
