Ah, Pete. Once again, our Dallas congressman says just the wrong thing at just the wrong time, in this case hours after the Houston Ponzi-schemer was charged by federal authorities with fleecing hundreds of people. Stanford had lavished money and trips on our beloved Congressman Sessions as he tried to fend off regulation.
But Stanford was bi-partisan in distributing his victims’ money. His bagman, er, lobbyist, was former Democratic Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes.

Yet the right-wing Republicans in his district will continue to elect him without a single thought.
Why on earth do we keep sending Sessions back to Washington?
He is an embarrassment to his constituents.
Sounds like an issue for Bob and Dan to opine on!
I disagree, Old Man. What is sad is that most of his constituents probably think he is the greatest thing around!
Petey was the first person to call for Bill Clinton’s impeachment on the House floor. He was also the first to call for our invasion of Iraq. He a hack. A backseater. Why does North Texas have such dismal representatives?
Yet another example of what happens without term limits. All incumbants need to be defeated. Those who replace them must put term limits in place.
@Sammy: As a member of Pete’s district, I’m holding out hope that the Lege will redraw his DeLay-built district after the 2010 Census.
But it’s about as long a shot of him ever losing a re-election bid. Of course he loves lobbyists. They helped get him his sweet district in the first place.
Pete needs to slow down on the plastic surgery. He is becoming the right wing version of Michael Jackson only sans any talent whatsoever.
@Randy: Term limits are a bad idea. You might as well handover the keys to the lobby.
Alot of us(his constituents) are mad at him for voting for TARP. I cannot think of anyone in his district that needed TARP bailout money. His district has very low foreclosure rates and has the type of folks who are immune to rapid changes in the economy. Strange to think about but the low income immigrants living in Oak Cliff and the wealthy Park Cities folks really have been insulated together as a group from the recession. I’m most angry with him over the absurdly priced insurance rates we pay in his district. We pay more than literally anyone else. Do we live on the side of a volcano, earthquake zone or below sea level on the coast? Heck no.
Calling for Bill Clinton’s impeachment is dismal representation?? I am just proud and pleased Pete was the first. Way to go Pete. Maybe he will also be the first for President BO.
I WAS a resident in his district, although he did say at one point that he didn’t represent me or “my kind”.
I thought “Thank goodness!”.
But it is rather irritating to have your governmental representative tell you directly that he doesn’t believe it is in any way his responsibility to listen to a segment of his constituency.
The gerrymandering that has occurred across the US to create safe districts has been the downfall of our government, I believe. When reps are so protected that they don’t feel the need to compromise – or even listen to the other side of an argument – then we end up with the polarization (and ignorance) that is taking over currently.
Enrique: Please explain yourself. If term limits exist for other government officials, why not congress? Most of these jerks have been in office since before any of us were born. So long as we reward them with seniority based upon the number of years they serve (with support from their respective parties), nothing will change and corruption will rule. Throw out all incumbants!
In his defense he thought he doing a Bud Light commercial, that or he’s a Log Cabin Republican.
Yes, Congressman Pete is my congressman. You can thank Tom Delay for Pete his safe district.
Since the DMN won’t cover the story (the Miami Herald beat them? usually it’s the DO.), how would people in his district know about it?
The last time he was in town he bragged that he get’s his health insurance from his wife, a SW Bell Executive.
Here’s some
Joet. Take off the rose colored glasses and look what your hero Pete S has done to Dallas. A little reflective thought on what is not being done for his constituents would be far more appropriate.
Term limits absolutely are needed. Robert Byrd could be the poster child. Once again, ignore EBJ’s incompetence and acorn interaction…..don’t get labelled a racist.
Blow out congress and get true representation.
I thought the number one rule for prostitutes was to never say “I love you.” Or maybe it was to never kiss on the mouth. Never mind.
