Starbucks Baristas Strike in Fort Worth

Hey Glenn, so those Starbucks baristas from Hilton Head? Looks like they might need the tips after all. They were on strike this morning (sort of) at one location in Fort Worth:

“We’ve had enough. Baristas should not be forced to expose customers to H1N1 or other contagions and stay sick longer, just in order to be able to make the money they need to support their families and pay astronomical health care costs. We’re making $7.30/hr., that’s a nickel above minimum wage,” said IWW Barista Michelle Cahill.

But all they did was shut down the drive-thru?

  1. the IWW, the Wobblies? I didn’t know they were still around. Their constitution says:

“Instead of the conservative motto, “A fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work,” we must inscribe on our banner the revolutionary watchword, “Abolition of the wage system.”

It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism.”

    but apparently not anti-tipping

  2. Most minimum wage workers don’t get any benefits at all. Stop whining and suck it up or go get an education.

  3. Not to worry – Under Obamacare, they just need to drop their health insurance and pay the $750 fine. Then if they need coverage, the insurance companies cannot turn them down because of pre-existing conditions so you just have the coverage when you “need” it and drop it when you don’t. The premuim for young people will be much higher than before because insurance companies will not be able to charge a higher premium due to being older or having a pre-existing condition but who cares, just pay it for the months when you have a need.
Who was it that wanted to government to fix our health care system? It seems that the number of uninsureds will increase under this in and out plan.
